Can you chew your way to a more defined jawline?

This may be the most ridiculous and vain Q I've ever asked.

I saw an ad on Instagram for a kind of gum that 'chisels' your jaw through chewing.

Am I a sucker? Is this a possibility?

Plenty of people chew gum.
I can’t believe that there exists a special gum that defines your jaw. Save your money.

I did see a post about face yoga. That does at least actually target muscles. Have a google, there’s some videos -free- on YouTube.

My grandmother swore that running the back of her hand under her chin ( firm forward movement) 100x a day meant that you wouldn't get a double chin. She did have an incredibly taut jawline even at 90. It has certainly not been part of the genetic inheritance thus far Grin so maybe her Edwardian beauty tip worked!

Look up mewing.

PiranhaTank · 16/04/2022 16:56

If you could, I definitely wouldn't have my double chins!!

BusySittingDown · 16/04/2022 16:57

There's a technique called "mewing" which you can do with your mouth and it can make the space in your mouth bigger, therefore helping your teeth be straighter etc. I'm really paraphrasing and haven't looked into it much but you can look it up on Google.

There was someone talking about it on the Joe Rogan podcast. I was only half listening but he was talking about our ancestors and how they used to chew harder foods (our foods nowadays are processed and mushy) and they had much better jaws, straight teeth etc.

So from that, maybe you can? Chewing gum gives me headache.

Also, apparently only breathing through your nose is better for you.

BusySittingDown · 16/04/2022 16:57

Ha @JaneJeffer beat me to it! Grin

NormalForNuneaton · 16/04/2022 16:59

According to DS you can buy plastic devices that you bite down on to exercise your jaw. (On AliExpress for example)

JaneJeffer · 16/04/2022 17:01

@BusySittingDown OP is probably busy watching cat videos now Grin

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 16/04/2022 17:07

Well, I have a very defined jaw through bruxism. I wouldn't recommend it though. I'm in constant pain.

Anotherpassengerwantstogetoff · 16/04/2022 18:37

@CatDogMonkeyPOW do you have a mouth guard? If so what type and how do you find it?
I wear one at night and have chewed through my new one in 3 months and can’t get in to see the dentist again for months.

It’s true

Your masseter muscles become built up if you chew a lot of gum.
