Flattering shorts for stumpy legs

Twenty something me would not have been seen dead in shorts. Forty something me doesn't really care anymore and wants to avoid chub rub when on holiday with my kids.

However, I'm not blessed with long lean legs and would like some that are at least a bit flattering and are a decent length without looking like they came from a camping supplies shop.

Any recommendations?

My advice would be to wear short shorts (not bum cheek short but a bit above mid thigh). Knee length shorts don't look good especially on shorter legs. Shorter is more flattering even if it mean exposing some flab/cellulite. I also think softer, looser fabrics are better. I've got lots of culottes that I've hemmed shorter. I'm the same build as you and these work well for me. I also didn't discover shorts until my late 30's.

This is the style I mean. They feel nice and cool and flattering. I dont like stiff, thick shorts.

The hush denim shorts were a good length - not too long not too short, not too loose not too tight, soft denim

What size are you ? I have very short thick legs and I wear shorts in the summer after years of not doing so . Suddenly in my late forties I don't care !
I am hourglass size 10 and my tricks for shorts are size up and go for flippy ones or denim boy shorts from next . I always wear with a black right vest to show my waist and boobs

As PP says denim boy shorts from Next that turn up. The turn up takes the eye away from thicker legs in my experience

Definatly shorter denim or chino 5" leg, gap used to do some nice ones.

I got some nice chino shorts with a turn up from white stuff last summer (I agree with PPs that you need a mid thigh/shorter short, not knee length)

I've just realised my chino shorts were actually from next...they still do them.
