Mid to late 30 year olds - where do you get your clothes?

I really need to buy some new clothes, but I walked around a few clothes shops in my town the other day and I just didn't like anything. Dresses especially were all horrible. I just didn't see anything I thought would suit me that I liked and was practical for life as a mam.

Where do you all shop?

39, 5ft3 and size 14-16 depending on shop.
All my clothes are M&S and next. I don’t go to the shops though as I hate wandering around and never find anything I like so I do a lot of online browsing and buy that way. A lot of the next clothes that I buy are brands via next so I have some superdry knitwear, love and roses, lipsy and some other brands I can’t remember, there’s a lot more choice online.

@sjxoxo

Zara & American Vintage are my go to’s. I also buy a lot of vintage!! Online, at markets or wherever I see it. I don’t understand the obsession with Hush - I find it’s really expensive for what it is and a bit ‘classic’- Is it insanely good quality? Whenever I look on their website nothing grabs me at all. I buy some basics from H&M but wish I didn’t! Don’t like the instore experience and find sometimes it’s crap quality.
In all honesty I wish I didn't have to only buy hush but it's one of the only brands that seems to fit me and suit my shape. Some of the pieces are decent quality and some of them are dreadful so I usually send those back. They way the clothes are cut just seems to hang well on me and often have that sort of slouchy lived in feel - the only place I could find denim shorts for example that were neither too long nor too short nor too loose nor too baggy or stiff... they are just right. I've some nice midi dresses from there, again they fall well and have pockets. Their loose jersey long sleeved tops are just right for looking cool but casual. The materials often don't need loads of ironing like COS for example. Obviously if you can wait for sales it's better because it is definitely overpriced.

Mid 30's here. My wardrobe seems to be mainly Ted Baker, I like their pleated skirts, some of the dresses and trousers and the odd top, but the quality isn't great these days though. I am buying more high quality fabrics such as leather and silk, or tailored items. Holland Cooper seems to be my go to, their silk shirt bodysuits are amazing (and sold out sadly) trench coats are very much my style, tailored shorts. I have a few leather skirts from Reiss.

Always looking for brands that have high quality fabrics and designs with a little edge, will keep an eye on this thread though to see what others are buying.

Have a look at Thread, by the sounds of it it's similar to stitch fix (which I haven't tried). You set your measurements, budget and what kind of clothes you like, and then it recommends you outfits (it has a normal shop as well). Also uses Klarna (so you can pay after 30 days, nothing upfront) and Thread has 100 days for returns.

I really miss Debenhams. Most of my stuff was from there

Tiddlywinkly · 17/04/2022 02:11

I throw money at Sezane every so often and have great success mostly. I like about 50% of their stuff.

Uniqlo, Reiss, Whistles, Boden, Jigsaw, Baukjen - very occasional wins

I'm late 30s

Not the OP but thank you for this. DH has used thread for years but I didn't realise they'd finally added womenswear.

I'd be staying away from Seasalt and Peacocks OP. They are aimed at the 50 plus market, not 30s.

ViscountessBridgerton · 19/04/2022 12:30

Mid 30s. Fat Face is my go to and I buy a lot of FF stuff on vinted as I'm confident with their sizing.

Otherwise M&S, Joules, less so H&M nowadays. I don't feel very inspired by a lot of what is on the high street.

WhyTheWhales · 19/04/2022 12:32

A real mix for me! H&M, Mango, New Look and ASOS are the first places I look these days. I'm on a budget and plus size, so a little limited in what I can buy. I get lots secondhand as well and can get nicer labels that way

Blinky21 · 19/04/2022 23:58

I'm 42, I wear Monki, Reformation, cos, Stories and H&M

LightOfAThousandStars · 21/04/2022 18:23

M&S is great for jeans, I used to buy them from TopShop but switched to these now. They are also great for basic tops/tees and shirts, sweatshirts, jumpers.

Joules for rain coats/macs, basics like bretons and sometimes blouses too but it depends on the print because I don't like the big floral patterns on me.

New look occasionally has good tops but the quality isn't the best.

TU, F&F (Tesco) and Next.

I've been struggling to find inspiration from the high street as well and usually order online instead.

Primark
Peacocks
H&M
Zara

V early 40s, size 10, get most clothes from eBay. Buy brands I can’t justify new,
Zadig & Voltaire, maje, Wyse London, Sandro etc. if purchasing something new likely from John Lewis? Can’t be doing with Zara/Hm anymore, just doesn’t last. Appreciate this isn’t for everyone, I really enjoy finding a bargain.
