Mid to late 30 year olds - where do you get your clothes?

I really need to buy some new clothes, but I walked around a few clothes shops in my town the other day and I just didn't like anything. Dresses especially were all horrible. I just didn't see anything I thought would suit me that I liked and was practical for life as a mam.

Where do you all shop?

Seasalt and Whistles

FuckingHateRats · 14/04/2022 21:15

I'm 35. Almost all my wardrobe is Zara or Mango, with a few M&S staples.

BundtCake · 14/04/2022 21:17

I'm following charlottexbeer- very classic ideas.

Slowdownandsee · 14/04/2022 21:35

Loads from M&S as they have the short length or petite in all their trousers/jeans and I’m short, just got two pairs their cropped barrel jeans, look cool and are like an mands ‘short’ on me. usually take a pile of stuff into change room and that’s how I’ve found some nice really good fitting things, the odd piece from autograph too. John Lewis kin is good , I like their oversize dresses with a leather or denim jacket and trainers, also John Lewis and/or, I like hush for the odd thing but gone off it recently, nice to mix and match with cheaper but still good quality stuff from M&S I think, I like hush leather bags though, no logos or excessive metal bits. Occasional bargain from primark, some nice organic cotton T-shirts lately and a denim blouse/shirt thing also some really good shorts but I had to size up and try about five pairs in same size to get two that fitted the same, can’t wear their jeans though am too short maybe, I like Raey on matches fashion if am feeling flush, odd bits from superdry I’ve found have lasted well in my wardrobe chosen carefully amongst all the stuff emblazoned with logos (just not for me but it’s decent quality I think?) I’ve got a Levi’s skirt I love. Most of my basics are from m & s I realise as I type this god knows what id do without them?! Prob have to spend a lot more as pp have said quality in places like river island or new look etc isn’t great, i go in H&M with the teens and even my
Older teen likes marksies jeans (again for lengths and fit, even she’s realised they are better value than the £80 quid ones she likes in urban outfitters!) I’m not keen on mint velvet it seems abit old to me (I’m early forties) and my 65 yr old mum shops there so maybe thats why! Pity topshop gone I think. Follow some stylish people on instagram that give me good ideas about looks, maybe worth a try?

Wheresthisgoing · 14/04/2022 21:39

Zara, whistles, mango, hush, sezane. Sticking with Levi’s for jeans. Outnet or netaporter for special occasion wear and swimwear. The Fold and Libby London for workwear

NoodletheSchnoodle · 14/04/2022 21:41

I'm 36, all my clothes are H&M, Next, Joules, few knitwear & sweaters from small businesses I've found on Etsy/Instagram.
Odd bit of Tesco/Asda or Sainsbury's thrown in, mostly pjs Grin

MyFieldOfFucksIsBarren · 14/04/2022 21:43

Stitch Fix and Lookerio are both good as you refine and send stuff back, worst case scenario if you don't keep anything is you are £10 lighter for the personal shopper fee (which is deducted if you buy anything). I've had mixed results, despite saying I hate small prints they have only just stopped including them after almost a year, but I've had some lovely stuff I'd never pick up in a shop.

RenegadeMrs · 14/04/2022 21:43

I'm tall so have to shop around a lot and I hate it! Boden, next and m&s do longer length stuff. Also go to John Lewis for big try ons from the consessions although their own brand stuff is too short usually. Such a PITA.

My wardrobe is a mix of Tu (Sainsburys) and Sugarhill Brighton. I LOVE Sugarhill Brighton for cute dresses and knitwear for something a bit different

PatientlyWaiting21 · 14/04/2022 22:01

ASOS, river island, new look, dancing leopard, never fully dressed, next, h@m, supermarkets 🤷‍♀️

Treebo · 14/04/2022 22:02

Waa a big Seasalt fan, a little less now though Bamboo for a lot including their short dresses, trousers and capri leggings and also Weirdfish for cheaper organic cotton and Bamboo items

LouB76 · 14/04/2022 22:04

I'm 45.

I shop at Mango, H&M, Uniqlo, All Saints and Banana Republic.

I used to shop at Zara too (and they are still ok for bags) but the clothes seem crap now.

Beecham · 14/04/2022 22:06

Esprit
La Redoute
Crew/Joules/Fatface
John Lewis

ohidoliketobe · 14/04/2022 22:06

Another stitch fix fan here. I get a box every 3/ 4 months and find the stuff good quality and starting to build up a wardrobe of decent quality items I love supplemented with basics like t-shirt, jeans, couple of pairs of footwear and jackets and coats. Rather than buying cheap stuff whichnlasts 2 or 3 wears.
High Street- I like fat face

Mandelinka · 14/04/2022 22:08

Turning 45 this year. Uniqlo and M&S.
10 years ago used to be GAP, Zara, Mango & H&M. Still have most of my clothing from that era and the quality is so much better to the current offer.

HippeePrincess · 14/04/2022 22:22

I’ve recently discovered Elsie’s Attic and I like about a third of what I’ve ordered from them.
I’d really like to find somewhere decent too and might consider stitch fix after the recommendations here.

Amelion · 14/04/2022 22:24

I like Sézane, Rouje, &Other Stories, Outnet to browse and then specialist shops for things like knitwear (Knotty Ones, Genevieve Sweeney, Ami Amalia) or jeans (Hiut, Blackhorse Lane).

GrapesThatThrive · 14/04/2022 22:44

I've also had loads of nice things from Brakeburn and Sugarhill Brighton. Some of it is a bit dull/old for me but some of it is really nice and good quality for the prices.

AndrewPeacock · 14/04/2022 22:56

I'm 35 and most recently I've been buying from:

River island - jeans/shorts
Quiz - jeans & bodysuit
AllSaints - dress & sweatshirt
Aybl - gym stuff
H&M - basic crop tops
New look - denim and checked shirts
Karen Millen - dress

I'm more of a casual dresser rather than a polished look I'd say.

PeachesToday · 14/04/2022 23:34

Hush, arket and John Lewis and/or

Crabbyboot · 15/04/2022 08:03

Next and ASOS. I miss Warehouse it's such a shame it closed! Following this thread with interest as I would like to find some more grown up brands with higher quality.

JillPole123 · 15/04/2022 08:14

Esprit! But - and a HUGE but - only online. If I visit Esprit in store the stock can be very underwhelming and not what I am looking for at all. Don't think I have bought a single thing in store. Online they have a much better selection, and I can get things I really like, that are a lot fresher styles.

Used to be a devoted H&M shopper in my teens/20s, but now use only for frivolous pieces (ditsy puff-sleeved dress, puff-sleeved blouses).

Also used to like Monki but sort of went off it, again only use for 'fun' pieces.

Mackmama · 15/04/2022 08:27

Next, H&M, Matalan.

Have you looked at SilkFred? There is a huge selection of different brands on there, there’s a reselling site on Facebook or you can look for things on vinted if you don’t want to pay top whack for new stuff.

Happy shopping Smile

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 15/04/2022 08:31

Cos, Kin and and/or at John Lewis (I miss Modern Rarity from there), arket, &OtherStories, Jigsaw, a smattering of M&S, Mango, H&M but only the natural fibres.

Short hourglass size 8.
