Teen 3 piece suit - help!

ds(18) is struggling to find a 3 piece suit for his prom.

Dh is a tradesman and never buys suits so we are at a bit of a loss where to point him to get one and what to look for!

He is a funny shape (6'2" tall, slim but wide hips/solid legs) and from trying in shops looks like he needs a 40L jacket / 36L trousers.

The local suit shops he has been in usually do 40" jackets with 34" trousers and don't mix and match, 34" trousers are just too tight around hips/top of thighs and they couldnt alter, but going up to 42L jacket drowns him.

He is looking for a charcoal suit, must be 3 piece, to wear with a black shirt, his girlfriend is wearing black and he wants to match. He doesnt want a black suit or a tux.

When we were in the shops we could see a big difference in how the suits hung when they had a bit more weight when wool mix. Dont mind paying up to £350 (maybe stretch to a little more for a good one) if the suit can also be used for uni/interviews. I have already ordered a couple of suits to try on at home from Next and M&S.

Can anyone help recommend where you/your OH get suits from online? (We are in Ayrshire Scotland, have tried local shops so looks like we need to try online now).

Do you have a branch of Slaters near you? DS bought a 3 piece suit from there for his prom and they were very helpful with fitting and finding the right suit for him.

That was exactly where we were today. He found a 40L suit he really liked, jacket looked great, but he couldnt sit down in the trousers 🤣. and the tailor couldnt alter for him.

They did say the were very low in stock and to come back in a week or so and they might have some in, but I think the problem is he needs a different size top from bottom which they said they don't do.

Online is best
I order a load then just return
Also have a look at matalan as well as next and M & S

I was going to say Slater's, the one in Canterbury can work miracles, it's our go to for husband and son's. That said eldest son recently bought a Ted Baker suit and got 2 sizes of trouser, then asked a local tailor which one would be the easiest to alter to the fit he wanted. It didn't cost that much either, then returned the unwanted pair within the refund period.

I got DS a wedding suit from Next, I liked that you could mix and match the sizes.

DS rented his prom suit from a gents wedding outfitters so he could get the right fit as was tall and slim. Was not expensive and he looked amazing on the day. He’s not needed to wear a suit since and has grown several more inches so buying would have been a waste.

Threetulips · 14/04/2022 17:26

He above have different leg length and a size fitter thing

Thanks! Another two suits (and a black shirt) ordered from links above, not sure my credit card can handle many more until I get some returned!

Hopefully one will fit and he'll like it!

@Okbutnotgreat good idea about renting, looked at a couple of local wedding outfitters and it is mostly kilts and tartan trews up here 🤦🏻‍♀️

Asos were great for my ds we could match different sizes in a matching 3 piece easily but I took him to a rental place before and got a really good fitting done, his prom was on then off then on again so rental didn’t work out in the end but it was really helpful.

Try Next or Miss Bros

Moss Bros

Another thumbs up for ASOS.

Ds got his prom suit from them and recently (now a few years later he’s a different size) another for a funeral.

He’s very tall and hard to buy for. I send for a few sizes to try, it seems a lot to pay upfront but they do refund the returns v quickly.

When he was at school I used to get his school trousers from asos too.
