Bra recommendations to stop the bulge!

I'm a 36dd and have terrible problems with overspill under my arms! I find M&S Rosie bras fit me at the front but I get unsightly flab bulging over the side straps...if I go for a bigger size they ride up at the back so I can't win! Are there any good under wired bras out there with really wide/stretchy bands to prevent this spillage?!

Go and get measured at a bravissimo if you can. They'll sort you out.

As above. Bravissimo stock bras for larger ladies and will give you advice via video or phone on the right size for you. I have tried M n S and when the cup fits they don’t do up. I bought supposedly in my size that did up but gave me no support. bravissimo every time. Personally I like Fantasie Belle and have been wearing them for years.

I'll see if there is a bravissimo I can get to...

I'll guess you're actually something like a 32G and the bulges are breast tissue that doesn't fit in the cup. G isn't necessarily that big. What dress size are you? Generally your back size is no more than your dress size + 20 but could easily be less. So you'd expect an 8 to measure no more than 28 (but could easily be a 26 not that they exist) and a 14 not more than a 34 (I'm a 28k as a size 14).

M&S skip some cup sizes and aren't the most consistent in cut of the back. They also have a bad habit of fitting you to what they have in stock so aren't the best at measuring.

The bulges under your arms are breast tissue that should be in the cups of your bra. My daughter had this issue she was wearing a 34C but when I measured she was actually a 32 F/G. That's the size she wears now and there is no bulge. Totally agree with a visit to Bravissimo.

As others have said, you are most likely wearing the wrong size and need to go up in the cup and down in the band.

You can measure yourself using the instructions here: www.booborbust.com/

I'm sure I've measured myself before using online guides and 36dd is what it came up with. I don't thinks it's breast tissue, it's more what's round the side in my armpit, if you know what I mean? I wear a size 14 top.

Are you swooping and scooping?

The under arm tissue is one of two things - either your cup is too small so it doesn't fit all of the breast tissue in, or its part of your breast called the tail of spence, in which case try something like a panache or fantasie bra?

Do you know what your under bust measurement is?

Yiayoula · 14/04/2022 17:33

Panache Envy bra is your friend !

And another vote for Bravissimo.

partystress · 14/04/2022 17:38

Talk about every day’s a school day. I had never heard of the tail of spence. My tails are my most hated body part, the one area I would lipo if I were braver. I have always swooped and scooped, but felt bad about basically having lardarse armpits. Now I feel so much better. Thank you @MissisBoote!

MissisBoote · 14/04/2022 18:37

@partystress - I only found out about it a few months ago!

What is this swooping and scooping you speak of? Is there a special technique?!
howthebellstoll · 14/04/2022 21:12

Oh blimey. I've just googled the swoop scoop...it's very clear I'm wearing the wrong size as my boobs spill right out of the top when I do that! I've been fitted at M&S before - clearly they aren't as good as Bravissimo. I'm off for an expensive trip there next week!

Thanks for the helpful advice!

I learnt about the tail of Spence a few months back too, I often have trouble with bra cups that come up too high under my arm pits, the wire then digs in my tail of Spence and rubs it red raw, even though the cup fits etc.
