If you were heading to Spain in May for 3 nights what would your essentials be?

Not bought clothes in ages and want to appear cool and stylish, even though I know I'm not!

Just done this. Check the forecast, wasn't good when I went so I wore rolled up blue jeans, t-shirt, light jumper, trainers, lightweight coat. Took 3 clean t-shirts for day time. Cross body bag, umbrella, flouncy scarf. For evening black jeans and boots plus two nice jumper/tops (wear one twice) and jewellery.

If you expect it to be warm I'd chuck in a pair of sandals for the day and maybe wear lighter day time trousers. In Spain last week most people were wearing jeans, trainers and a jacket, even in the evening. If it is a city break think of what you would wear to London for example (ie no beach wear). If you don't want to look too touristy do not wear one of those puffy Uniqlo jackets that fold up into a bag!

However once you are there you will realise you need less than you think, no-one is looking at you, and everyone looks crap (apart from a few exceptionally groovy people).

I live in Scotland, I really hope that Spain will be warmer than it is here 🤞

I bought this for a recent city break. It is so comfy I had it on all the time! Looks good with a long or short sleeve top on underneath.

Which city @titsintiers? Might change the answers. It WILL be warmer than Scotland.

Barcelona @Countmeout

In Barcelona at that time of the year it should be t-shirt & shorts weather during the day (with a light jumper) and jeans in the evening. Probably no need for a coat unless you want to take a lightweight one.
The most important thing is comfortable footwear
And take beach stuff too. One of the best things about Barcelona is combining the beach with sightseeing

I normally go to Malaga in May so slightly further south but I imagine the weather will be similar and feel hot especially coming from Scotland. Think of a really good day in Scotland - really good.
I’d take
A couple of light cotton dresses. I wore these for shopping/ sightseeing. Felt less like a British person abroad in shorts and t shirt.
Very light trousers or skirt and a couple of mix and match interesting t shirts ( personally I’d take sleeveless because it’d be warm) I never can bear jeans if it’s warm at all. I’d take trousers and skirt because I like to plenty of options.
Denim jacket or similar for travel . It be be used with the trousers or dresses for an additional layer. But likely you won’t need it for that.
Sandals you can walk in and comfortable trainers if you think you might need an alternative.
Hat and sunscreen.
Nightie.
Will all fit in a carry on bag hopefully.

@Northernlass99 I find that the Spanish can wear jeans, jumper and a jacket when it's around 20/21 degrees and English tourists are in their shorts!

@titsintiers early in the season it can be a bit chilly in the evening so you may need jeans and a light jacket. I've been to southern Spain a couple of times at Easter and this has been the case for us, plus Barcelona is slightly further north .

We are heading to Palma for a weekend break at the end of this month. I'm thinking of linen trousers or culottes with a T shirt and sandals for day and probably jeans with a light jumper or shirt for the evening and I'll probably take a jacket out with me in case of sitting outside later on. Our hotel has a pool so I'll also be packing my swimsuit.
