A Day at the Races

Never been before. Day meeting. Pub outing.

What do I wear? I was going to stick to good jeans, nice top, jacket, but my friend is talking about dress, heels, fascinator.

Any insight would be appreciated. Has my friend massively over-cooked it, or am I not taking it seriously enough. Thank you.

Which course? And which day?

If it's a Ladies' Day , then your friend is right

Which stand are you in - the posh one? It's quite normal to wear jeans in the cheap end, and a hat in the posh end.

I would imagine it depends which racecourse as well? Is it soon - do you need to factor in bad weather?

I don't know much about style and beauty but I used to work in racing and it definitely depends which racecourse and which enclosure.
Somewhere like Southwell or Catterick on a Tuesday, jeans definitely OK. Somewhere like Goodwood or York on a Saturday then something more fancy would fit in better.

Even the small regional courses dress up for a Ladies'Day. I've just googled Kelso and Musselburgh, so hardly Ascot.

Here's York's

Depends on which racecourse, time of year, which enclosure if any, mid-week or weekend, and weather.

Leicester on a Saturday in April. We haven't been told which enclosure we're going to be in,

There's been no suggestion that it's going to be Ladies Day.

Leicester Ladies Day is in July. I've never been to a Ladies Day but have been to ordinary meets, and , no dressing up isn't a thing.
