Plus size swimwear

I’ve been putting it off incase I magically lost 4 stone whilst still stuffing my face but it’s time to start thinking about buying a new swimsuit….eek.

I’m off to Greece and Italy this Summer and really need a decent swimsuit.

I’m 5’11, size 18 with big boobs, a big bum and a flabby tum! I’m finding it virtually impossible to find a swimsuit that actually fits, that isn’t too frumpy or that doesn’t have skimpy holes/gaps for various body parts to pop out of.

Where do all of you curvy ladies get decent swimwear from? Don’t mind paying slightly more if it actually fits but not too expensive.

There’s lots and lots of plus size swimwear on Shein but I’m quite dubious about the quality….?

If you've found this page in search of swimwear that has been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best swimsuits for women useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

I swear by Landsend tugless swimsuits

Widmerpool · 11/04/2022 21:10

I also like Lands End, but tankinis, because I’m tall and I need enough length in the body. I was a bit worried about the two-piece concept beforehand, but actually the top part is long enough that there is no gap at all, and because it’s not anchored at the bottom, it doesn’t pull down and squish my boobs or reveal too much.

The bottoms I have are high waisted and keep everything tucked in, and separates are much easier to get in and out of than my previous one-piece, which I always managed to twist and get my head through an armhole etc.

The only downside is that looking at the bottoms before I put them on makes me cringe, because they are ENORMOUS.

I am 5 foot 10 size 14 with a long body and big boobs. I have given up on swimsuits and go for tankini top and high waisted bottoms so there is no tummy gap.
Fantasie have good cup sized tankini tops with proper built in bras which are good and I have had a couple of M and S tummy control tankini tops which are comfy for swimming in. For bottoms I need the really high waisted ones - right up to the belly button.

Playful Promises are good

Bickles · 11/04/2022 23:39

What bra size are you?

Topbird29 · 11/04/2022 23:43

Last one I bought was from simply be - had a tummy control bit that is ruched. Am big of boob and tum, and looks OK. Am not as tall as you though - so can't remember if they do different lengths / body length.

Lands End. I have a swimsuit and 2 tankinis. The quality is fantastic. I am 5ft 10 and they do a wide range of sizes. I am really pleased.

Happymama24 · 12/04/2022 00:01

I am a size 16, 38dd. I always felt swimwear just wasn't supporting my breasts. I bought a swim suit recently from decathlon. They have aqua fitness swimsuits and they are very supportive. They have large sizes too.
I am very happy with mine

Pea79 · 12/04/2022 00:07

I bought a larger sized bikini from Boden and it is lovely quality. The bottoms are large enough to hide all of my bum cheeks and the worst bits of my tummy.

CornishTiger · 12/04/2022 00:12

Elomi have a sale on

Quitelikeacatslife · 12/04/2022 00:17

Best ones I've had were from figleaves, buy them in bra size. But randomly Asda strapless ruched ones are marvellous. I like a strapless one for sunbathing with a halter strap to pop on if walking anywhere

Quitelikeacatslife · 12/04/2022 00:22

And please get a fun bright one, and enjoy it in the sun , black is soooo boring

Tangelo · 12/04/2022 06:44

I have a brilliant suit from Deakin and Blue. Expensive but they are dress and boob sized so you should find a great fit, are made from a double layer of fabric so are brilliantly supportive, and stylish (I have the cross back swimsuit). Would highly recommend. Also designed and made in London.

Snag tights do swimwear it fits lovely.

MadameFantabulosa · 12/04/2022 06:51

Elomi are excellent and you can often get them cheaply on Amazon. Fit well, good quality and nice patterns. You don’t need to hide away in black or navy!

mumonthehill · 12/04/2022 07:03

Lands end tugless in tall! I have 3 now and they are fabulous and long enough in the body. They are often in the sale so wait until there is an offer.

gubbinsy · 12/04/2022 07:06

Someone beat me to it but Deakin Blue is the best swimsuit I've ever owned. Fits perfectly, supportive and looks great. Designed by women for women.

Wingingitmostofthetime · 12/04/2022 07:07

Thanks everyone! Currently working my way through these suggestions. Really, really trying to avoid black!!

I like fantasie swimsuits that come in proper bra sizes. Shop around for sale ones

FlickyCrumble · 12/04/2022 07:19

I came here to also say simply be. I have the costume the pp has linked to and it is amazing. I have it in a pattern and black. Only downside to having a structured swimsuit is that it can take a bit longer to dry.

Legslegs · 12/04/2022 07:31

I have the magisculpt one posted upthread. It looks ok but my boobs come out at the sides, doesn't cover properly.

shewhomustbeEbayed · 12/04/2022 20:20

I buy Miraclesuits ( on ebay as they are cheaper ) I am 5’9 size 18 with a long body, big boobs and a tum and they are very flattering.

melissasummerfield · 12/04/2022 20:33

Another vote for magisculpt!

Another vote for Fantasie. I bought one recently and it’s fantastic.
