Hats for wedding, yay or nay?

Is this still a thing? I like a hat but don’t want to look like a dick.

It’s a wedding in a hotel venue in June.

I was at a wedding yesterday . Only people wearing hats were MOB and MOG. Quite a few fascinators still. Most of the younger guests had sparkly clasps or hairbands in, and by younger I mean 20 something's not toddlers!

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2022 22:10

Thanks. I am most definitely not younger 😃

Agree with curlycat. Last 2 weddings I went to (both in last 12 months) - only MOB wore a hat, but everyone else had fascinators.

If you like wearing a hat, wear a hat! I am firmly of the opinion that headgear of some type ought to be worn to a wedding, whether you choose a hat, fascinator or big fancy headband. We get so few occasions where you have chance to do so!

It's a yay from me.

MrsTimRiggins sums it up perfectly.

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2022 22:17

@MrsTimRiggins I kind of feel the same… my planned hat is small, kind of forties style.

Just don’t want to look out of place - it’s friends of DP

It's a yay from me. I love any excuse to wear a hat. Fascinators not so much, but yes to hats.

DramaAlpaca · 10/04/2022 22:20

Missed the update - a 40s style hat sounds very chic indeed.

MrsTimRiggins · 10/04/2022 22:20

I certainly don’t think you’ll look out of place. I’m in my (late) twenties and, as you may be able to tell(!), always wear some form of headgear and am certainly far from the only one to do so.

Amelion · 10/04/2022 22:25

It depends - I haven’t seen hats or fascinators at any of the recent weddings I’ve been to. They seem a bit old fashioned to me personally - but different crowds/venues/vibes etc will mean they feel more or less appropriate.

Blossomtoes · 10/04/2022 22:31

I love a hat. Weddings are just about the only chance to wear one so I grab the opportunity.

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2022 22:32

I am a bit worried about that @Amelion. I’ve not been at a wedding in a long time.

It will be a glam one. So I thought it might be appropriate, but unsure.

I think hats are definitely passé now. The last wedding we went to, (a very swanky do) only one guest wore a hat. She sticks out in the photos.

No awful fascinators but a few embellished hair clips.
