Tretinion and spf?

Hi, I’ve just started with Tret and wondering if I need extra spf for my face. I currently use a face moisturiser with spf 30 in the mornings - I don’t tend to wear foundation day to day… should I put a face spf cream on as well? Thanks!

Yes, it's recommended that you use a separate sunscreen. SPF 30 would do, but SPF 50 (with UVA++++) is best. Make sure that you reapply it every few hours if you are out in the sun or sweat it off.

I meant to add that if you've just started with Tret, this FB group is really helpful with lots of knowledgeable posts and posters.

Yes! You need a separate spf because you won’t apply enough when it’s a moisturiser. Preferably factor 50.

Yes - I use factor 50 as PPs suggested.

And I top it up during the day - once a day isn’t enough.

Thanks all I’ve just ordered some 50 ++++ face spf. Why is it - does Tret make you more sensitive to the sun or likely to burn?

Yes it makes you more sensitive.

Tret increases cell turnover which exposed to UVA can lead to burning, so if you don't have adequet Spf you're basically just counteracting the benefits. Spf is the prevention and Tret is the treatment.

You can get patches of hyperpigmentation if you won’t wear sunblock with it.

I use a mineral one because it’s instant protection and lasts longer than chemical blocks.
