Can an apple shape wear Bombshell dresses?

Just that really... am a classic apple, size 18 with large convex belly and no waist. Several weddings coming up - in a mix of cultures which is also a slight concern as they are a very particular look - and just wondering how they look on people like me.

If I have s style icon it's Katherine Hepburn dressed for an Adam and the Ants video. But you'd have to put three Katherine Hepburns together to get me now

Someone on S&B mentioned Lady V ages ago. Since then I've bought dresses for me (fat, 40s, in menopause) and DD (16, busty, slim).

We like that the dresses we buy are 97% natural fibres. I find high necks v.uncomfortable (genetic condition = shortened neck), so avoid them.

DD loves the Hepburn style

I might get this one next: www.ladyvlondon.com/catalog/product/view/_ignore_category/1/id/40262/s/plswing-dress-ss22-ditsy-jade-floral although I love the Hepburn cherry blossom.

At risk of sounding like an ad, they've got 25% off this weekend. Given your budget, if you see something you like, you could get 3 dresses and have some left over.

@PinkTonic

They’re so matronly! I’ve got no idea of the age of the people on here who keep recommending them but I’m 60 and they’re too old for me! You want something to skim, and yes if you’ve got a couple of months lose a few kg. The fast 800 is fantastic.
I don't know why they don't appeal more to me. I've been wearing 50's style dresses since forever. I've got loads of Samantha Sung and Palava 1950s style dresses but no Bombshell. I can't put my finger on why I don't like Bombshell- are they a bit tries too hard?

It's really interesting that Lady V can sell dresses at those prices and make them in the UK.

I can't answer your Bombshell question, OP, but they are fantastic at advising if you ring them. If they don't think they can help, they will say so (they are definitely not suitable for petite, flat-chested women, but I bought something for a more shapely relative, and it was perfect).

Scarlet & Jo have some beautiful maxi and midi dresses in at the moment, definitely worth a look.

gunnersgold · 10/04/2022 14:50

@PermanentTemporary fair enough but the style was so good on her ! Made her look much more hourglass than Apple !

minipie · 10/04/2022 14:54

I’m a pear/hourglass and end up wearing wiggle style even though it’s a bit dated, because it suits me more than most of what’s in the shops.

If I were an apple with decent legs I’d look for a shortish trapeze/floaty dress with a V neck and long sleeves, and wear it with smart wedge sandals and maybe a soft blazer.

Lubeyboobyalt · 10/04/2022 15:02

I would say no if you are conscious of your shape at all, they emphasis the wrong areas. You want more of an A line or 50's style shape that flows out from the waist

I tried once and wanted to smash the mirror - that could well be me projecting my own body issues but I felt wonderful in the other type

CharmingScene · 10/04/2022 21:20

@gunnersgold

This with a pink blazer really suits apples ( I work there and dressed someone the other day and she looked amazing ! )
@gunnersgold can you share what shop this is? It doesn't appear in the pic you've posted. I really like the look of that dress.

[quote ApolloandDaphne]Actually I have just had a lol on the Bombshell website and I think this style might works. It comes in loads of colours and fabrics.

I have a very similar dress to this and I'm an apple. The cut of the dress itself gives you some shape but I also wear shapewear underneath it. In that dress I go from an apple to more like an hourglass.

(And can we please give it a rest with with the "too old/old fashioned comments?)

gunnersgold · 10/04/2022 21:34

@CharmingScene sorry it's next .£45 .

ineedsun · 10/04/2022 21:36

Did you seen Kate Bottley wearing a Bombshell dress? She looked amazing! I’d never heard of them before seeing that
