Lightweight jackets to wear with jeans

Pondering a new coat purchase for spring / summer. I have a much loved Levi's denim jacket (thank you outlet in Phoenix on DH's work trip) that I like wearing with dresses and skirts and a formal trench coat thing for work.

Really want something light I can wear with jeans. Looking at this, can't decide if I like it or if it's something my nana would have worn with beige slacks on a day out.

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/fatface-lily-parka-jacket-soft-blue/p6185669?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Wondered if anyone would like to show me their summer jackets.

Gah!! Why can't it just post the link? Why does it have to add the 'I found this at John Lewis' stuff.

To me that's a bit nanna.

I get what you're looking for, that's the sort of style that would look better in a cotton material.

I often see coats like this suggested and to me, even on the slim models they do look old fashioned.
Yet maybe that's me being 50 odd and associating them with the 1980's nanna!!!

What about a bomber jacket? I was never a huge fan until I picked up a grey sequin one in New York a few years back, and it took away my perception of them being puffy and a bit ‘if your names not down…’

Maybe this sort but less shiny?

Faffandahalf · 10/04/2022 09:49

I’ve just bought this

Quilted jackets are in at the moment. I really love all the colours.

nana would have worn with beige slacks

if your name's not down

Grin

It;s weird how your perception of clothes gets clouded.

Anyway .
No help at all but I bought a lovely parka type jacket in H&M a while back , black cotton twill . They had olive or black (olive looked at bit Feargal Sharkey on me )
Pockets , a drawstring at the waist , hood .
I cannot find the bloody thing now Sad

if the original coat linked to was a brighter colour it would be far more appealling.

FairyCakeSprinkles · 10/04/2022 10:09

@thesunwillout and @MrsLargeEmbodied I did wonder if it was the colour and perhaps a khaki would look more modern.

Don't get me wrong I have very fond memories of days out with both my nanas in the 80's but you're right, they may have been wearing a similar leisure jacket.

@dizzyupthegirl86, I like that. I wouldn't have thought of a bomber jacket (which is stupid, I had them first time round) and I know I like Mint Velvet stuff. Tempted to try that. Would like it to be longer than my waist though and I'm 5,8 so this can be a challenge.

@Faffandahalf I really like that. Not sure if I'm too boring to carry it off but it looks great.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I can picture it. Want to avoid black or navy for spring but equally sometimes struggle with olive. It always looks better on other people. Sigh.

I bang on about these regularly but the Uniqlo ultra light down jackets are brilliant.

Whitney168 · 10/04/2022 10:25

I have a version of this Mint Velvet utility jacket that I find useful.

Nitgel · 10/04/2022 10:30

I bought www.marksandspencer.com/textured-lightweight-bomber-jacket/p/clp60538730?color=HUNTERGREEN this recently as its useful for rainy days

Countmeout · 10/04/2022 10:31

I think you might need a couple of different ones, the first one you posted is good for a wet day /showery weather . Zara do one every year which is plain and innocuous and hopefully less perceived as nanna. I can’t seem to link from their app but it’s ‘water resistant parka’ £49.99. I have similar from a previous year, light colour so it looks summery goes with most things.

Then something like the River Island one for other times. I have a Toast Kantha jacket which probably is less fashion forward.
You don’t say what age you are or if you will be wrestling children and need lots of pockets and use said hood instead of trying to use an umbrella in a shower.

Nitgel · 10/04/2022 10:33

Oasis also have lots of good jackets

LittleG69 · 10/04/2022 13:45

I’ve got this which I’m really pleased with www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-cotton-blend-parka-445135.html

Pigtailsandall · 10/04/2022 13:49

I have a utility-style jacket from Baukjen which I love. Its unlined, thick cotton and great for a mild day.

I love the Mint Velvet ones pp linked above. I think they look a bit more structured without being as formal as a blazer cut

Joules have great coats.
