Teen DD black tie dinner - help!

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 10/04/2022 08:10

I am shopping with my teen DD today for a dress for an end of season sports club black tie dinner. It won’t be super formal but obviously she can’t wear her usual uniform of baggy sweats…any suggestions? She is slim build, average height and fair. I have no idea where to start and realise we’ve left this very late! Please help. Don’t want to spend a fortune.

Department stores are probably your best bet - John Lewis or somewhere. Less tramping around, they often have personal shoppers who can help for free, and you've got a bunch of formal and semi-formal brands under one roof.

My teen GD likes New Look. Teens seem to wear very tight and very short. They really can’t be that expensive.

If it’s not majorly formal, I’d go with cocktail rather than floor length. You could try Lipsy (via Next), Vesper, ChiChi, Pink Boutique.

Good luck!

Monsoon?

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 10/04/2022 09:05

If in doubt, I'd ask her friends from the sports club what they're wearing –she'll probably want to 'fit in' more than follow the advice of us lot Grin

They’re not all revealing/clubbing dresses. But lots of choice.

My slim athletic niece after finds ‘going out’ dresses at H&M

Just look on social media to see what the girls wore at other such events .

ASOS next day delivery - order a few, send back. Short strappy and tight is the usual uniform for this age group. Shows more problematical I find because they are wedded to trainers!!

VanCleefArpels · 10/04/2022 09:38

Shoes not shows!

DD has worn the following to black tie dinners (sports club dinner, 18ths etc)

  • v short tight dresses,
  • silky petticoat style strappy dress (v 90s)
  • strappy top with black evening trousers. Wears heels, changes into trainers!

ASOS, Bershka, Motel Rocks, Urban Outfitters, Zara are places she orders from

Tkmax
We found some lovely formal dresses in there

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 10/04/2022 22:46

Thank you all, she didn’t have a clue and first year her age group invited so none of her peers know either…anyway we found a short lacey dress in urban outfitters she feels comfortable in and it looks good so I think will be fine
