Can a dress be made 2 sizes smaller?!

I’ve seen a dress I love but it’s only available two sizes up. Would a seamstress be able to take it in?! It’s a thin chiffon material so am worried it’s not doable?

Back is a zip if that makes a difference?!

Yes, potentially- my tailor chap says two sizes is the maximum for alterations.

Depends on the construction. Have you got a link?

It depends entirely on the construction.

Have you got a picture?

Depends on dress. I’ve had cjiffon taken up, and taken in, but the seamstress refused to touch the chiffon bodice because she said the material is too delicate and the fabric will look overworked.

So I’m A cup and dress is more like E cup. Seamstress wants to take it up and straps but that makes it pull armpit painfully.

Honestly? Buy a different dress!

hmmm between the shirring on the waist, the triangle waist seam, the ruched shoulders/ arms, the ruching on the chest and the plisse fabric of the skirt I would say that is a pretty big ask if you need more than a slight adjustment to the side seams or overall length.

Hairybaker · 09/04/2022 16:46

I had a feeling that would be the case 🤣 argh just can’t find anything I like! Everything is floral!

I think you should order it and take it to a dress maker to at least get an idea but be warned, generally they would remove the sleeves to adjust the shoulders and arm holes, take the zip out and undo the side seams, so basically re make the dress - this will cost more than you'll pay ASOS for the dress in the first place.
It's available in all sizes when I click on the link though?

pastabest · 09/04/2022 16:53

perhaps I'm missing something but all the sizes are showing as available for me?

KimikosNightmare · 09/04/2022 17:28

Unless you are a size 2 it's available sizes 4 to 16.

Hairybaker · 09/04/2022 18:19

My one is a different colour, I ordered the last one in its size so it no longer shows on the website. I will take it in and see what they say, if not can return it 🙂

Appreciate it will cost more, which is fine as it’s the only dress I can find that I remotely like! If anyone has seen similar then please let me know! It all seems to be florals or animal prints everywhere else

what is it you like about it?

The neckline? Sleeves? The shirring? The plisse skirt?

What colour/ size?

Hairybaker · 09/04/2022 19:43

I like the fitted top part/neckline that shows a bit of cleavage, the length of the sleeves, the midi length and the flowy non-clingy skirt. Open on colour as long as wedding guest appropriate
