Holiday pool shoes to hide my ugly toe!

Fedupofballs · 08/04/2022 22:28

Help please. We’re off on holiday soon and most of my big toenail has fallen off and looks quite unpleasant. Usually I will wear flip flops throughout the day as easy for throwing on after a dip in the pool, getting sand off with a quick rinse etc. Has anyone got any ideas of an alternative which will cover my ugly toe please. I don’t want to break the bank!

It’s going to have to be crocs!

LubaLuca · 08/04/2022 22:31

I wouldn't worry about it. Nobody will be getting close enough to notice a damaged toenail. I think you can buy stick-on nails for toes, though honestly I wouldn't bother (I imagine they'd be more trouble than they're worth).

MarmiteCoriander · 08/04/2022 22:36

Could you put a plaster on the toe and paint a 'nail' it the same colour as the other nails? Then just wear regular sandals? I realise this might look even more ridiculous- but cannot find any summer/beach shoes that cover the toes.

Drunkpanda · 08/04/2022 22:40

I don't have a big toenail due to an op and lately I've been sticking a fake nail onto it. I cut it down and put nail polish on.
You couldn't do that if the skin is damaged or sore though.

Mosaic123 · 08/04/2022 22:40

Plasters are the cheap way to go. Just don't let it float off in the pool .....

Fedupofballs · 08/04/2022 22:42

Think I’ll go for wearing a sign on my forehead saying look at my toe before buying crocs to match my son’s! I’ve got disproportionately big feet as it is. If the blackness/bruising doesn’t ease I might go for a plaster.

Beach shoes? Decathlon do them cheap in lots of colours.

stimpyyouidiot · 08/04/2022 23:33

Would a caged sandal work?

Or something like this?

You say pool shoes, so I'm assuming you want something that can get wet?

What about something like these? amzn.to/3v655v7

Although really if you're going in the pool I think you should just say 'fuck it' and go in without them. But for around the pool those would be great

Goldrill · 08/04/2022 23:41

I've got a big toenail which is just dreadful. I cut and file it as short as possible and then stick the remaining bits back together with micropore tape. And then nail varnish over that and the skin where the nail should be.
I swim a lot normally (which is why they're so bad to start with!), and I am beginning to realise that no one else has ever noticed.

Cleanbedlinen12 · 09/04/2022 01:35

I promise you I wouldn’t notice . I would be far too busy trying to keep my legs out of sight, my wobbly bum hidden and tanding sideways to hide all the wierd shapes my body is now. Toe? Pshaw!

1forAll74 · 09/04/2022 04:02

Does it really matter, if a person has an ugly toe? no it doesn't. I dare say a man who has a toe fetish wouldn't be bothered either.

Longdistance · 09/04/2022 04:40

What about buying some neoprene swim shoes? Aqua shoes? Only problem is that you’ll have white feet if you’re tanning.

These are perfect! I’m sure no one will notice.

I think part of the reason I’m overthinking is I’m going away with my younger, thinner, more manicured little sister. I’m the one who can’t be bothered with makeup, she’s the one who never leaves the house without it! I think I’ve reverted to being teenage me quarter of a century ago!

How soon is your holiday? If it's healed up but just lacking the nail, you can have it reconstructed by a nail technician.

Slidey23 · 09/04/2022 07:24

I think you should wear some fab flip flops and just not give a toss.
We’ve just come back from hols and I was wearing some Toms at breakfast, I know they’re not waterproof, but might be another (non-plastic) versatile option.

wishitwasaduvetday · 09/04/2022 07:28

Bear in mind that while jelly shoes are fine for round the pool they get really hot , I had some a few years ago, could walk on the hot sand in them as the heat went straight through them and burnt my feet. No good for walking any distance in a hot place.

wishitwasaduvetday · 09/04/2022 07:29

Could not walk on hot sand that was supposed to say!

gunnersgold · 09/04/2022 07:36

I pulled my big toe mail off last summer .. obvs not on purpose . I just wore flip flops and painted the nail bed .. no one ever noticed !
You could get stuck on nails too .

FusionChefGeoff · 09/04/2022 12:47

I have been on a pool holiday for a week now - I haven't seen a single toe - far more inteResting things to see / do - I really wouldn't worry about it.

KirstenBlest · 09/04/2022 12:57

Crocs

bellabride · 09/04/2022 14:34

Go for a salon pedicure and have the nail built up with acrylic.

dizzydizzydizzy · 09/04/2022 15:01

Aqua shoes or crocs-style. Decathlon have both. I have seen some quite pretty crocs from fashion brands.

JengaTower · 09/04/2022 17:39

No one will look at your toe

They will however look at your weird pool shoes

Yes, I absolutely agree. I'd definitely have a second look at the woman who didn't want to take her Crocs off.
