Are Birkenstocks comfy?

I'm going on holiday in a fortnight and I'm thinking of buying a pair of Birkenstocks so just wanted to know if they are comfortable for walking around in - not massively far walking, more just strolling about the resort.

Also, do they take a lot of breaking in? What are the best type to get?

No, definitely not. I bought my first ever pair two weeks ago and find they fit really oddly. However, they're a limited edition and I love the colour and fabric so I will persevere, but will never consider another pair from this brand.

I can't wear them or any similar style as they rub the top of my feet.

Lightningrain · 08/04/2022 19:12

I’ve got two pairs and I find them comfortable but wouldn’t do a day off sightseeing type walking in them. I wore mine around the house for a few days and found them fine after that.
I’ve got the Gizeh and Mayari styles but do fancy getting a pair of Arizonas.

inheritancetrack · 08/04/2022 19:14

earth spirit are far more comfortable

I just know I'm going to be in the minority saying this on a MN Birkenstocks thread Wink but I fucking hate them. I like the look of them but they're just so fucking uncomfortable. I've tried a few pairs and they have cut my feet to ribbons, I've never been able to break them in. I do have really small feet so maybe that's why they rub more though?
I feel the same (I'm a standard size 5) - never understood how anyone finds them comfortable!

I have had them in the past & once worn in they are fab .... once spent a week walking miles around NY & Washington in them.

Wondering today actually whether the Boston version are good & whether the "soft" footbed is really any better than the standard
Bostons ??? unfortunately can only order online as no stockists that near me.

NotMeekNotObedient · 08/04/2022 20:45

Love love love them. So comfortable, I count down the days I can shed my winter boots to them on. And they last...I've worn them a lot and had two pairs in the last 15 years!

They also do half sizes which is fab.

ballroompink · 08/04/2022 20:54

I have the Mayari and they are so comfortable - I walk miles in them.

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 08/04/2022 20:55

I think I will get some and wait until after my holiday and break them in for the summer.

inheritance thanks for the earth spirit tip - they look fab and I'm going to get some too.

Yep I am with you (but have size 7 feet so not on the small feet front) - I love the look of them and have tried to find them comfortable but they just aren’t. It’s a huge source of disappointment to me.
bluebaul · 08/04/2022 21:10

I wear Arizonas all the time. You do have to break them in but it isn't something that takes weeks, or even days, when I get a new pair I just wear them around the house for an hour or 2 here and there.

bluebaul · 08/04/2022 21:10

Also I have to size down in them Arizona (haven't tried any others)

ShesThunderstorms · 08/04/2022 21:11

I've got my first ever pair arriving tomorrow, I'm so looking forward to having them. I couldn't decide between black and white. Went for black in the end as with most things in my wardrobe!

CatFacePoodle · 08/04/2022 21:31

I love them and can't wait for the weather to improve so I can sort my feet out and wear them again! I can, and have, walked many miles in mine. Might treat myself to a new colour this year. Now off to look at some....

DomingoinLittleOakley · 08/04/2022 21:48

I love mine and live in them as soon as the weather warms up as they really help my plantar faciitis (also sometimes wear them with socks if it's cold). But I do find the first few times I wear them in the spring they feel heavy, and they don't exactly rub but make the skin on the tops of my feet a bit dry.

Pieceofpurplesky · 08/04/2022 22:00

I can't wear them - they kill my instep and make my feet ache

Blossomtoes · 09/04/2022 00:24

I love my Arizonas, I wear nothing else in the summer. I need to size down.
