What beauty treatments have you found a waste of time?

Is there anything you have found a waste of time/money? I personally love the relaxation element of facials but find I can do them myself at home at a fraction of the cost. What have you had done that you wouldn't try again or just found didn't help your skin?

Thanks very much for saving me £500 @NotquitewhatImeant!
This is such a useful thread.

Justleaveitblankthen · 09/04/2022 12:08

I would have to say thread lifts. I had four placed around my cheeks and jaw. Hurt like buggery, had to sleep propped up for a week, looked like I'd had serious burns injuries on my face and the only difference it made was £660 less funds in the bank Sad

Also a Hydrafacial - looked great afterwards with face plumped up but disappeared by the next day. Not cheap either.

@MiddleParking

LVL lashes do nothing for me at all, annoyingly. Also agree with PP that a strokey massage is unbearable.
I had my first one a couple of months ago and was a bit dubious as had seen a few comments like this - but I think it really depends on your lashes as I was genuinely amazed at how much lift I got. My lashes are quite thick but go straight out/down so I did curl them if using mascara just so I looked half awake Grin

Not really had any other treatments as can't be arsed with them and agree that what you do daily with your skin is going to be far more effective than any single treatment.

Agree with facials. I've never even found them relaxing.
I've considered micro needling but the 'science' always sounds fuzzy.

I've seen before and after pictures of the cog/thread lifts and I've struggled to see the difference, and it's supposed to be quite painful in the recovery (says one beauty salon I follow, and they're usually quite blasé about that sort of thing).

Profhilo always sounds and seems hit or miss. I wouldn't bother, personally.

silentpool · 09/04/2022 12:35

I don't bother with facials but doing regular photo rejuvenation has worked wonders - it can remove pigment or redness.

Teeth whitening is amazing too.

Fritilleries · 09/04/2022 12:38

We're intelligent enough here to understand that NO products can penetrate deep enough to cause any change to skin structure, right?? Of course facials have no impact beyond the relaxation aspect. Duh. Nothing works apart from injectables and surgery. We'll all end up old and wrinkly!

ArabeI · 09/04/2022 13:22

Facials I've had include; aroma facials, obagi facials and cathiodermie facials. I receive a complementary rejuvenating facial at the place I have my baby botox, which is probably my favourite.

MissStarry · 09/04/2022 13:42

A limp-wristed massage is always a damp squib.

Time40 · 09/04/2022 14:06

Eva Fraser's facial workout (ie, doing face exercises). I gave it good go for several months. I really tried with it ... it did absolutely nothing. Very disappointing.

EatSleepReplete · 09/04/2022 14:13

Facials & face masks. Complete waste of time, no improvement, they often cause me to break out or make my face sting.

Vohgue · 09/04/2022 14:57

I often see these expensive face creams and serums recommended but honestly tret is one of the only things to show clinical results. Laser for redness and broken veins. Botox for deep wrinkles.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 09/04/2022 16:45

@NotquitewhatImeant

Profhilo did nothing for me annoyingly *@FlummoxedFlowerpot* - I really wanted it to work but I just had lumps for a week and the same dehydrated skin
And yet it made a huge difference to my skin. Glowing, plum and hydrated.

I’d say one persons rubbish is another’s remarkable. Depends on skin / other factors I guess.

NeedleNoodle3 · 09/04/2022 20:03

I vastly cut back on facials and use the money on botox, that works better for me.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 09/04/2022 20:14

I occasionally think I should be trying regular treatments now I’m in my mid-30s, but I can’t get past my sneaking suspicion that it’s 99% down to genes.

I mean obviously drinking water and eating well isn’t a bad idea. But then I look at my mum- mid-60s, who has done so much sun worshipping over the last 50 years she should look like a raisin. She has zero skin care routine other than some soap and water in the shower, and her skin is smooth, with a few lines around her eyes.

I had a friend who used every lotion and potion going and she started getting wrinkles in her early twenties.

Is it not a bit like trying to prevent stretch marks, preventing the sign of aging?

JadeSeahorse · 10/04/2022 13:55

I had 5 of my lower front teeth tipped, (Not sure what the correct term is.). Cost several hundred pounds. Looked great initially but all had disintegrated or fell off within 6 months. Complete waste of time and money!

PlainJaneEyre · 10/04/2022 16:30

Possibly composites?

HeatherShiver · 10/04/2022 20:04

I second brow lamination, looks great 1st day, week later mine are orangey and need more messing with than before.

Newmum110 · 10/04/2022 20:17

Same re the brow laminaton great for a day, disaster after that. I'm looking forward to it wearing off!!!!

Undecicive · 10/04/2022 20:51

Botox was a complete waste of money for me. My body just developed antibodies to it after the second treatment. I only found out on the 3rd, of course, when that didn't work either.

Orangutanteddy · 11/04/2022 09:22

Teeth whitening - I found the really white shade only lasted about two days.
Lash extensions look great for one or two weeks but that's it.
I would only get those treatments if I had an incredibly important event coming up. Other than that, I just get brows tinted, waxes done and massages. In my opinion, another Treatments are a waste of money.

WorryMcGee · 11/04/2022 10:03

Any and all facials. At worst I’ve broken out, at best I look no different! I’ve got better skin from using Sunday Riley Good Genes every night, actually taking my make up off properly (begone, face wipes) and drinking more water than I ever did spending £££ on facials…

thethoughtfox · 11/04/2022 10:07

Dermaplanning. Skin was red that day and wasn't supposed to out make up on it so looked ridiculous. It looked smooth for a week and then the hairs all started growing back.
