Darts on a shift dress

Hello. A dress I ordered has just arrived and I need some help in deciding whether to keep it. It’s a classic shift dress, fitted through the waist and hips with a pencil skirt.

It fits great from the ribs downwards but the darts around the bust make me look like I’ve got pointed boobs! I am not blessed in the chest area!

Is there any hope that the darts would soften a bit after washing? It’s machine washable.

Is it worth a try or do I need to admit defeat and return it.

Have you tried steam ironing the end of the dart over the curve of the ironing board to try and smooth it out? It is hard without seeing the actual dress and dart but that might help. You could put something between the fabric and the iron to make sure you don’t damage it.

That’s a good idea, I think I’ll try that first.

Sounds to me as if the darts are too long. They should not reach to the 'point of bust'. I would send it back. Sorry.

Please don't laugh too much- I thought this could be about a dress with a pattern of darts (as in arrows and triple 20s)!!

One hundred and eighty!

Send it back
