Please help style me, I'm useless!

How would you style this skirt? I'm an apple shape (I think) and I have no idea what to wear with this skirt so I don't look so fatSad it'd probably be alright while I'm standing but as soon as I sit down, I'll get the dreaded tyre stomach. I would style it with a vest top tucked in but I think that'll be too exposing.

Help!🥴

Gathered waists are not friendly to the bigger belly (I speak from experience). Do you have to have this particular skirt? If you can find one that doesn't have gathers at the waist it would be better. The best tiered skirt I ever had was straight from the waist to top of the hip.

I've already got the skirt, bought it a couple of months ago in the sale cause it was such a good bargain (£20!) and hoped I'd lose weight so it looks better. Maybe it's best to just sell it on. I will look for a more flattering skirt for my shape. ThanksSmile

It's a really lovely skirt OP! But I agree with PP, and I also speak from experience, this style is not very flattering if you have a belly. However if it's already in the wardrobe id try to find a white vesty top with a neat denim jacket.

Some of those double front tops are also flattering.

It's so nice isn't it? I just saw it and had to have it, I haven't felt that way about clothes for so long! Thanks for the link, will check it out. Hopefully I can make something work cause it'd be a shame to never wear it.

I did this with pleated skirts, love them on others, I have brought 3 over the last two to three years, and have never worn them, as when I put them on they makes me look fat around the middle, I'm only a size 10/12,
I've sold 2 on ebay and have the 3rd on ebay now.

Would one of those tops where you don't tuck in and the waistband isn't a waistband, it's under your boobs, work? They flare out from under the boobs.

PacificState · 07/04/2022 21:07

Oh sorry didn't mean to be down on your lovely skirt OP. I think if you love it you should just wear it and enjoy it. There are more important things in life than a flat belly. Denim jacket as PP said would work.

mdinbc · 07/04/2022 21:24

Find a top that hits just at the top of the hip, and goes over the waistband of the skirt. In pink would look nice!

BusterGonad · 08/04/2022 07:57

Could you maybe team it with a longer top in a wrap style? I'm thinking like the traditional type worn by ballerinas! I'm not sure how good it would look or where you'd find one though but I do know wrap tops are good for hiding a rounded tummy. (I'm the owner of a big tummy myself!)

Thanks for all the tips, I'm going to experiment a bit and see what I feel comfortable with :)
