I'm going to start doing my own as it's difficult to justify the cost of having them done.

Some success in the past with Rimmel Gel ones, but wondered which you found the most hard wearing

Suggestions please?

Barry M Gelly with their plumpy top coat. 2 coats of each. Lasts ages.

Estellelauder · 07/04/2022 16:01

Essie with Seche Vite on top. Doesn’t knacker them, lasts almost as long as gel.

wfrances · 07/04/2022 19:41

I find Essie and Gucci nail polish the post

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 07/04/2022 19:43

Essie.

KylieCharlene · 07/04/2022 20:04

Quite honestly I've tried expensive brands, mid-range and budget and the very best is Poundlands Make-up Gallery. The colour choice isn't great but they do some great neutrals.
Another I like is Essie but some (including the ultra popular Ballet Slippers) I find streaky.
Barry M also has good staying power but can be hard to remove (especially the glitter ones).

I always do my nails. I find it so relaxing to do in front of the TV and always feel it's a waste of money to get a manicure because I do a really good job on my own.

I use a 4 sided buffer like this amzn.to/3xa4Ule first to get nails smooth and no ridges.

Then use tools like these amzn.to/372Ra14 to clean underneath nails and get the skin underneath all even. And use the wider ends to push back cuticles. These are amazing to use on freshly soaked toes as well (the amount of gunk that you can get is gross and oddly satisfying)

💅🏻 I use this OPI Base Coat amzn.to/3KothiM

💅🏻And this OPI Top Coat amzn.to/3KoSVUS

My favourite polishes are Essie (this one is my favourite nude shade amzn.to/3x7l2nD) but I also agree on the Barry M Gelly ones like these amzn.to/3DSsDYk are really good too.

If you take the time and don't rush you'll probably find it just as relaxing and get the same results as a salon

Barry M with Sally Hanson too coat, always my go to combo.

Petrarkanian · 07/04/2022 20:15

I've always painted my nails, I now use mostly Avon, lasts for ages and a massive range of colours. I did mine 10 days ago and it's just looking shabby.

Thank you, really helpful replies.

Polish just doesn't last. I bought a Mylee gel kit and have been using builder base and doing my own, they last over 4 weeks (ideally I do them after 3) and grow so long with the builder

Isobelslider · 07/04/2022 20:34

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel. It lasts a week. It's the only polish I will buy now. You will need a strong nail varnish remover for it though.

AnyFucker · 07/04/2022 20:37

Barry M

Goldengoosey · 07/04/2022 21:46

Nails Inc is my favourite. I like their brush the best. Any of their base or treatment base coats. Then 2 coats of colour. Topped with one coat of Seche Vite. Best top coat I’ve ever tried and I’ve tried a lot x

Anna197264 · 07/04/2022 21:54

@mymymy0 that kit looks great. What builder do you use with it? I might ask for this for my birthday.
I enjoy doing my nails but they always chip because of my work & I can’t afford to get them redone every 2 weeks due to regrowth.

mymymy0 · 07/04/2022 22:08

I buy the Mylee builder base. 3 coats of it and my nails are as hard as acrylic, and the gel lasts until I file it off

SocksAndTheCity · 07/04/2022 22:41

I like Nailberry (and it also doesn't stink which is nice😊)

SunshineCake1 · 08/04/2022 07:31

I wish I knew what I was doing wrong as I rarely get two days without the ends started to come off.

Anna197264 · 08/04/2022 08:33

@SunshineCake1 the same for me with regular nail varnish. I’m sure it’s because of my job. Lots of hand washing but gel does hold for about a week then it starts to go. I don’t mind doing my own nails I just never thought about getting a kit.

@mymymy0 thanks. I’ll definitely get one. Excited.

mymymy0 · 08/04/2022 08:49

Ignore my awful cuticles (working on those!) but this is about a week and a half in, using Mylee builder and gel

Best nail polish please
Ostryga · 08/04/2022 08:54

I’ve just got the Pleasing set, and whilst it is pricey god the polishes are lovely. Dry in seconds and last for ages. They do singular bottles if you want to try.

Or Rommel 60 second. Always had good results with that.

Lushers · 08/04/2022 08:57

Essie all the way

Enzbear · 08/04/2022 09:05

Another vote for Barry M

IheartJKRowling · 08/04/2022 15:32

Avon are great and so are Nails Inc. I used get 10 days of wear from mine if I did a "proper" manicure.

I used a liquid cuticle remover, push back cuticles, then a base coat. Leave the base coat to dry thoroughly for an hour then add a first coat of colour. I then would leave it overnight or a good couple of hours and then put another coat of colour on and a top coat.

I use this most of the time now, lasts for at least 10 days and the colour is gorgeous:
sistaco.co.uk/collections/nail-sets

It's very easy to do and I bought my set on Ebay for about £40. The finish is as good as any salon manicure I have had. The picture (if it loads) was my first ever attempt at using it. The small pots lasts forever because you only need a tiny amount.

Best nail polish please

Did you get the Mylee kit OP? I have one and love it
