Dress advice needed

I bought this dress a few years ago and have worn it once. Partly because I haven’t been anywhere recently (who has?) but also because I’m just never sure if it’s quite right. So I’d really appreciate some honest advice… how would you style it? What would you wear it to? Should I give up on it???

You can’t tell in the pic but it’s navy and cream (not black and white)

nice

i think alt colour(red/green/pink/orange)shoes sandals...and maybe accesorize would add a bit zing..

Sprig1 · 06/04/2022 15:48

I like it. You could wear it with bright red/pink shoes/bag/necklace.

MrsZzz · 06/04/2022 16:10

Thanks all. Would something like these work? All my current shoes are depressingly neutral.

Do you think it’d work for a 50th birthday party (evening, restaurant/dancing) or is it a bit too much?

Lovely. I would have brighter shoes.

I’d get them in the red not the green btw

not that green..its dirgy-is that a word?/be hard to find bang on colour cords?
what bout these? www.joebrowns.co.uk/art-deco-cut-out-shoes-kc192#colour=715
keep the stripe scene- maybe gold pink bling bangels earings and the darker red sorta scarf*primark is amaze for £3-4 scarfs

MrsZzz · 06/04/2022 16:27

I love those shoes @tolerable but I worry it’d make the whole thing a bit ‘busy’. I agree about the green - really not my thing - it’s the red I’d go for.

I think if you took that dress up to above your knees it would look really good.

Mavisisnotmyname · 06/04/2022 16:51

I agree, it's far too long, would look more modern if it was shorter, above the knee. You've got a lovely figure Op!

tolerable · 06/04/2022 16:59

the reds nice :)

Leftbutcameback · 06/04/2022 17:01

It fits so well, is flattering, and you have a lovely figure. For me I'm no so keen on the sleeves but then I don't like short sleeves anyway!

Lineofconcepcion · 06/04/2022 17:18

Love the dress, love the length but I would remove the cutout sleeve, a bit dated. Easy to do.

Maireas · 06/04/2022 17:21

Leave the length - knee length is a bit dated now. I think it looks great and agree that red shoes would look good with it, although if you're keen on the bright green, go for it.

thesnaleandthewhail · 06/04/2022 17:41

Great figure, the dress is too long. Get it taken up to just below the knee and you're good.

thesnaleandthewhail · 06/04/2022 17:42

It's not about what is dated versus not dated but about what your figure and the dress suits. And I agree that just below the knee is right for both in this instance. The bold print is just too much for that length in a body con fit

Afrodizzyak · 06/04/2022 17:46

Can you remove sleeves?
If so, you could wear with flatform mules or trainers for an updated modern look.

MrsZzz · 06/04/2022 18:14

I think I agree on the length issue- I need to be a couple of inches taller! I’ll have a proper look at the hem when I get home to see how easy it would be to take up. The sleeves are very 5 years ago so if I’m getting the hem taken up I’ll also do something with them (either get rid or attach them to make a sort of cap sleeve)

Thanks for all the feedback- it’s really helped to crystallise what was niggling at me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/04/2022 19:02

I think it needs to lose about 5/6 inches - so it's still midi but not so long.

Agree - take it up. You look fantastic in it!
newbiename · 21/04/2022 21:24

Dress is lovely. I like the length.
