Brogues for wedding?

Scarecrowrowboat · 05/04/2022 11:15

I have a wedding to go in early autumn and I am not wearing heels or anything pointy on my feet. I'd like something practical that I could wear again. I was thinking about ballet flats but they're a bit flimsy and I have v narrow ankles so a lot fall off at the heel. Just came across this website of really nice brogues and wondering if they would work?

This is probably the dress

They wouldn’t be my first choice no sorry. I think the both the colours and style clash a bit. I’m rubbish with shoes sorry but an expensive ballet flat would work better and be a bit sturdier potentially?

Doidontimmm · 05/04/2022 11:22

I think the brogues are nice and would be fine but just not with that dress. I’d wear a maxi or midi dress for an autumn wedding I think.

broccolibush · 05/04/2022 11:26

I absolutely would. I think the site you linked to has some lovely shoes (am bookmarking it now as my days of heels are far behind me due to rubbish feet). I might go for a jumpsuit or a slightly longer dress though - the one you’ve linked is more traditional-wedding-guest-attire to me so might jar slightly with a less traditional shoe choice.

They’re a bit ‘clown going to do a gig at a primary school’ - I wouldn’t. Low wedges? Smart trainers? Good ballet pumps with an ankle strap?

WeddingFavour · 05/04/2022 11:48

I quite like the shoes and I quite like the dress but not together. Would you wear tights? I never would to a wedding but I don't think brogues work with bare legs unless very preppy/casual. A jumpsuit or trouser suit could be lovely with those brogues though.

midsomermurderess · 05/04/2022 12:43

It's novelty footwear. I wouldn't, but there is an appreciation of it here.

French Sole ballet flats are well made and really quite sturdy, good range of styles and colours.

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 05/04/2022 12:53

Lovely dress. I'd go for loafers in a neutral or contrasting colour th.

bananaboats · 05/04/2022 19:03

Sorry OP i don't like either and don't think they go together at all.

Charley50 · 05/04/2022 19:16

Love the dress. I think it would look much nicer with a silver brogue.

Stuckandinamess · 05/04/2022 19:22

Love the dress but not with those shoes. I think there is a happy medium to be found between high and pointy shoe and a chunky brogue

Scarecrowrowboat · 05/04/2022 20:03

A few people have mentioned jumpsuits and I've been looking for one but haven't found one that isn't too casual, too frumpy or too officey. I do like the idea of the brogues and the jumpsuit a lot. I think the reason I'm not as keen on the ballet flats is that combined with the dress the outfit becomes v girly whereas brogues break that effect a bit.

Have you already bought the dress? I think it's the type of dress which is going to be really difficult to style with flat shoes. I do like some of the brogues, which surprised me, as they're not usually my thing. The pink and gold ones are very cool.

What about a suit? Zara has some great ones.

AppleKatie · 05/04/2022 21:24

The dress is very girly, I don’t think you can get away from that whatever shoe you choose. I like it, but it is v feminine.

Hadn't considered a suit, I'll have a look thank you.

What beautiful shoes Shock

mdh2020 · 05/04/2022 22:31

I can’t wear ballet pumps so I buy Sketchers light weight shoes that have a strap across. Pavers have similar in their catalogue.

Coniferhedge · 05/04/2022 23:00

You could always go for a more retro vibe. Modshoes have some lovely flats that are more sturdy, or T-bar style shoes which have a heel but more chunky.
