Are they naff and will I look too try hard at age 49? Was thing for wearing to concert/festival with jeans and trainers.

If you think ok- what would be a cool one to get at my age?

I don’t see a problem with them. I think a cool one to get would surely be one of a band you like? I do think it’s slightly naff to be wandering about with a band splashed across your front that you don’t even like or listen to!

UthredofBattenberg · 04/04/2022 20:56

Only naff if you dont know/like the band

EdenFlower · 04/04/2022 21:01

Yes, of course- would go with someone I'm a fan of- though not sure my musical tastes are very in- it would be something very retro

Definitely try hard unless it’s a band you actually like! Who do you like? Get that!

EdenFlower · 04/04/2022 21:02

In fact, i've probably got a few tucked away from concerts i've been to but never worn- might dig them out- I know I have a New order one and a George Michael one somewhere.

I've just bought a nirvana one from H&M. I'm sure I had the exact same one in 1993! I'm sure I look past it and uncool, but I still listen to nirvana so I think it's fair game.

Ponks · 04/04/2022 21:41

Can't go wrong with a New Order t shirt, sounds great.

Iheartmysmart · 04/04/2022 21:46

Band t-shirts aren’t naff but personally I’d only wear one if I’d actually seen the band in question. Think it was M&S who did a pink Ramones one a few years ago, that was very wrong.

PlainJaneEyre · 05/04/2022 01:17

Look at Red Bubble.

balalake · 05/04/2022 13:16

@UthredofBattenberg agree with you. People with Joy Division t-shirts who probably couldn't even tell you who Ian Curtis was for example.

CointreauVersial · 05/04/2022 13:24

DD2 has pinched all of DH's old band t-shirts, which she thinks are VERY cool indeed. Tears for Fears, U2, James, all very middle-of-the-road, styled with vintage Hawaiian shirts and DMs.....but she is 18. Grin

I suppose that's the equivalent of me wearing a Rolling Stones or Beatles tee.

Innocenta · 05/04/2022 13:30

I have like nine Queen shirts Grin

NorthernSoul55 · 05/04/2022 13:39

According to OH it is uncool to wear a band t-shirt that features the band you are seeing.... And the more worn out the better, which is good because most of his clothes are!
The New Order one sounds good to me.

NeedWineNow · 05/04/2022 13:47

Well I knock about in my Foo Fighters t-shirt (of which I have a selection) quite often. I'm waiting for a vest top (to wear with shorts) and another t-shirt to come in the post.

I have seen them though and was supposed to be going to Manchester to see them in June Sad

NeedWineNow · 05/04/2022 13:47

I'm 59 by the way....

evilharpy · 05/04/2022 15:25

I have a few band tees. Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Bowie, The Doors, and my beloved Ramones one that often gets worn to bed because it's so comfy and I love it.

I have not seen any of them live @Iheartmysmart Hmm and some died before I was born but I love them all so I wear the t shirts.

Oh and a Ru Paul one from Primark if that counts!

Have a look on vinted for bands you like.

Iheartmysmart · 05/04/2022 15:30

@evilharpy not sure what the Hmm is for. I said that was purely my own personal view. I really don’t give a shiny shit what others do.

evilharpy · 05/04/2022 15:31

It was because it seems like a very peculiar view.

Kanaloa · 05/04/2022 15:55

It wasn't really peculiar though? It would have been peculiar to say that nobody should wear the top if they haven't seen the band. That poster said they're not naff, but she personally would only wear it if she'd seen the band.

Original tour T-shirts from the 90s and before can be worth quite a bit of money.
midsomermurderess · 05/04/2022 17:40

I think a bitnaff, and It brings to mind The Thick of It Episode when a minister wonders 'Why do they wear clothing with writing on it?' But that's just me.
