Fashion emergency! Any help much appreciated.

I have to go to Rome for a work thing next week - five days of meetings, probably a couple of meals out. It's quite a big gig and I want to feel confident but I have NOTHING to wear. I work in a creative field so I don't need officewear - the look I'm aiming for is relaxed, a bit quirky but decently put together. So chunky boots and trainers are great (have got them), jeans are good if I can get a good jacket to go with, colourful wide-legged trousers could work. This is the sort of look I'm going for but without the hat. www.meandem.com/super-wide-leg-ponte-trouser-vibrant-green?glCountry=GB&gclid=CjwKCAjwrqqSBhBbEiwAlQeqGlSjGbzwYFCVw38LOZAd_ypAqaca2SutmocVdXglAyt8P8DDRM6klBoCnUwQAvD_BwE#288=1804&fo_c=3006&fo_k=992f720ad480a2928a0b7bee19665d7d&fo_s=gplauk

My problem is tops. Shape wise I am a short apple (size 14-16) and all the things I'm looking at only seem to work with a tucked-in top - which is not going to work with my tummy. Also just looking at the wide legged trouser/blazer combo the ideal top length is going to cut right across my worst bit isn't it?

Arg. Dunno what to do. I feel like a complete frump. Can anyone help?

Ps, not sure I would wear paper bag trousers with a generous waist, I find there’s too much material and makes me look bigger

I am shorter size 14 with big boobs and generally avoid separates . Dresses all the way for me . Sea salt are great. I also like Cos - but the sizing hard to predict.
Tunics are too shortening - they cut you off - often at your widest point- when you need visual line to go down.
Dresses can be styled differently - with boots, with birkies,, a big scarf and a jacket. Wear a jumper over the top. Chunky cardigan.
In Rome wear trainers, boots or birkies -the cobblestones are evil
Leave room in your luggage for beautiful shoes or a handbag or 2..😉

M an apple shape. I love dresses. Hush have some great shirt dresses. I have a leopard print one that is midi length massive sleeves would be reasonably cooling in Rome. Tie round the waist with no fixed belt so you can do what you like, looks great with trainers and a bit of gold jewellery. Could add denim or fake leather jacket if you needed warmth.

I also like the classic longer red dress, white trainers, denim jacket (too unimaginative?)

I also saw a woman wearing black wider leg (but not very wide) crop pants with a black top (could choose a looser fit t shirt from m&s) plus a denim jacket a leopard print loafers. She looked great and it's such a classic look. It would have worked eith the leather jacket too but the denim is more summery.

So my prescription is denim jacket, a shirt dress another dress, black crop pants and black loose t shirt and maybe a khaki or navy or white t to wear with same pants. Dress up with jewellery or possibly a scarf. Assuming you have shoes and bag sorted.

Agree with dresses. Especially shirt dresses 🙂

You sound like my sister. We landed on a loose fitting top (but not voluminous!) falling to or below hip over wide leg or straight trousers, layered with a 'gilet' style (very long), over the top. This longer layer creates a lengthening smooth line going down beyond the hip. It can be either very lightweight or warm, and looks sophisticated. Create interest around your face with a scarf (worn wrapped or long) or with statement necklace. If you have decent boobage a small hint of cleavage can be good to draw the eye upwards!
