I love this dress but is it wedding appropriate?

And if so what accessories/how to dress it up?

Fabulous dress! I love gingham though and it seems to be very popular right now. What shoes would you wear?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 04/04/2022 15:33

I think it is very cute-but and I am going to get a bashing for this but am being honest it would be something my 20yo DD would wear but not me...

How smart is the wedding?

Will you be wearing a hat?

MakingShiteMemories · 04/04/2022 15:35

Depends on the type of wedding. If you're all in your 20s and it's a relaxed type of affair, it would be fine. If it's a very formal churchy type thing maybe less so. I really like it, but I'd baulk at wearing anything made of recycled polyester (or even polyester on its first outing).

NightmareSlashDelightful · 04/04/2022 15:35

Depends on the wedding.

Buffet in a barn yes possibly. Country house chic probably not.

I noped out at 'recycled polyester' to be honest. Not fun on a hot day.

I would put a chunky strappy sandal with the dress, similar to the picture below, but perhaps in a jewel tone.

drpet49 · 04/04/2022 15:40

I wouldn’t wear that to a wedding

eddiemairswife · 04/04/2022 15:51

It's a bit Doris Day at a hoe-down.

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/04/2022 16:36

I'm getting an Amish vibe from that dress.

Yeah, this.

Fergie was mightily fond of gingham for special events. Look upon her works and despair!

blimey, she looks like Alice in Wonderland

midsomermurderess · 04/04/2022 17:25

I think it's lovely, nothing at all like Sarah Ferguson's milkmaid look. I think an espadrille wedge would go well.

www.nobodyschild.com/clothing/pink-check-charlie-midi-dress.html I also like this one. I don’t know why but gingham is calling to me!

I went to a wedding in a gingham dress when I was a teenager and was mistaken for a waitress by one of the other guests. I was mortified and I think it was definitely the dress that did it. I love this dress you're looking at however and it doesn't have a waitress at a wedding vibe!

bingoitsadingo · 04/04/2022 18:01

what’s the venue like?

I think it’s fine for a fairly casual wedding (marquee/village hall/BBQ type affairs) but gingham is quite a casual print, so I wouldn’t wear it to a more ‘fancy’ venue.

It’s a really cute dress though

WhoopItUp · 04/04/2022 18:02

I don’t think these are suitable for a wedding, sorry. They look like casual dresses.

TooManyPJs · 04/04/2022 18:03

I really like it and think its fine for a wedding, obviously not if it's a really dressy, hats type affair but a wedding with a more relaxed vibe, definitely.

Hell0G00dbye · 04/04/2022 18:04

I have 3 weddings this summer! They’re all at sort of stately home type venues. I tend to feel uncomfortable and stuffy when I’m dressed up to the nines so they appeal to my more casual side but I don’t want to offend anyone or make them feel I haven’t made the effort. Obviously I’d wear heels/nice hair etc!

I like it, the first one is better for a wedding.

I'd wear it with a jacket & some chunky platforms like the Esska ones.

IvorCutler · 04/04/2022 18:36

I really like the first one, but I don’t think I’d want to wear polyester. Have you looked at & other stories? These are a similar style. Viscose, so less sticky in warm weather.

I wore a similar dress to this for a wedding last summer (same brand but it was lilac gingham and had a sweetheart neckline). I wore it with red lipstick, nude strappy heels and a round straw bag. Got loads of compliments!

In fact here is a pic.

I think with most weddings in these modern times, unless they're very formal you can wear what makes you feel comfortable. Obvs nothing white or something like a t shirt dress of course!

Gingham to a wedding??
Shannith · 04/04/2022 19:22

It's not the gingham per see - it's the red. Or blue - too many connotations of milkmaids/Doris.

@Cocoandcleo made it work because it was a lovely shade of lilac - and I'd imagine a lot of the compliments where because the style of that dress is chef's kiss.

Shannith · 04/04/2022 19:37

And by that I mean you looked stunning @Cocoandcleo
