I'd like to know whether I should buy a curling wand or straighteners - forgive my ignorance! Growing out a bob, straight hair, been styling with my very old hot brush but think a new appliance is needed. I don't want ringlets or curls, just to give a wave and a bit of movement. Have watched youTube videos and see straighteners can be used for this, in a spiral motion. Is this better/easier than a curling wand? Thanks!

Straighteners are very adaptable in my experience. You can do everything from corkscrew curls to iron-straight. I've got really coarse hair that doesn't take a style easily - Babyliss Big Hair and straighteners are the only things that have ever worked for me (and BBH just makes me look like Anna Ford, sadly without her face). Curling wands have been no good at all, the style just drops straight out. But my hair is very stubborn - if yours is fine it might be different.

If you're only going to buy one, get the straighteners and learn to curl with them.

Curls are more forgiving when your growing out a style.

I use GHD, but I've heard that cloud9 are good too.

Depends if you ever want to straighten it. My hair is straight naturally and I prefer the curl shape I get from tongs, so I have tongs.

It's easier to curl with straighteners than it is to straighten with a wand IMO.

Can you just not get another hot brush? Are they not a thing anymore?

Thanks all. I think the hot brush is probably outdated now, and my old one doesn't have temperature control which I would like. I had curling tongs but found the clamp left a line in the hair.
