Dress 1, dress 2 or both? Casual edition

I am always looking out for useful summer dresses especially now that I will be working from home more often and am pretending I need more casual wear.
I’ve been on the hunt for a classic easy to wear white summer midi/maxi for ages and 1 ticks that box but I can’t find it to try it on.

But I tried on 2 in the shop the other day and it’s very flattering and easy to wear. Objectively I know 2 will be easier to care for, but 2 isn’t the white dress I’ve been searching for….

I'd just get the purple/lilac one if you like and don't get the white dress as it's not what you've been searching for.

Were those your only two finds? How about Arket?

I was so tempted by the white cos dress. I ordered it in black instead because it’s much more practical for me with 2 young children and a dog 😂 I love the lilac one you’ve posted too.

@Gonnagetgoing 1 is exactly what I’ve been looking for but now that I’ve finally found it I’m debating the practicalities. And thank you for reminding me about Arket, I had a quick look and nothing jumped out.
I’m looking for something that covers by shoulders as I burn so easily but also in a natural fibre (not linen)

@IvorCutler how do you find the black one? Is it true to size? I can’t really wear black these days ☹️

Get them both! The white one is lovely and the purple is more practical, but they're both very classic simple styles so will be very adaptable.

Try the white one on at home and send it back if it doesn't fit.

I would love to be able to wear this style but it doesn't suit me!

@Thinkle I’m waiting on it to be delivered, hopefully today! I’ll let you know. They only had a medium left in stock and I’d usually take a small in cos, so worried it might be a bit big! They gave me 20% off by the way! I’d had it in my basket for a few days and they emailed me a code- TAKE20 worth a try if you order.

Dress 2 will be less commonplace and I like a degree of individuality.

I love them both and you have reminded me that COS do lovely, simple dresses like this so will be taking a look at their website later !

Dress two gives you no shape at all

They look a bit shapeless. Remind me of hospital gowns… sorry.

@Thinkle it came! I love it! It’s a wee bit big but the detail around the waist stops it looking shapeless. Very tempted to get the white now too, it’s a great dress!

Gosh, I say keep looking - they both look like shapeless tents. Surely there's something more flattering out there?

@JMAngel1 my husband saw me just after I tried it on and complimented me. I’m not for one second saying his opinion matters, because it doesn’t 😂 but he wouldn’t have said anything if he thought it looked shapeless.

@Thinkle I’ve ordered the white too, throwing caution to the wind. Another dress may have fallen into my basket too.

For those who are rather negative about the shape of these types of dresses I have to admit I find it odd to join a thread on a generally upbeat and supportive board just to say something negative or critical.
