Eyelash curler recommendations please

I have a basic set of eyelash curlers but they don't really give me enough curl, I have fairly long but straight eyelashes and need something to give them a lift (literally!)
Any recommendations? Or any decent mascaras that would work? I use Max Factor clump defy as I like the consistency but it doesn't really help with the curling.
Thanks!

Try a heated one perhaps? Or blow the hairdryer on the ones you have for a few seconds only, test they're not hot to touch (very important) and see if that changes things.

Otherwise I find the shu uemera ones the best albeit they are a high price point. I've had mine years. I've never in all honesty used any mascara that actually adds a curl to straight lashes, I think it's a gimmick. Hold a curl a bit once it's in perhaps but nothing more.

I've never done it but lash lift etc in a salon seems to be very popular in recent years and will last a little while.

Hi - I have the exact same eyelashes as you. I have the tweezerman eyelash curlers which are great and usually waterproof mascaras hold a curl much better because they're oil based rather than water based, water pulls the curl right out. Little tip too, curl at the base, mid and towards the ends, other wise they can just be straight and point up which lasts less time too. Can you tell I hate my eyelashes?! 🤣

Thanks so much that's very helpful, I will try your tips Smile

I had a few pairs and didn't get on with them, pretty much had given up on lash curlers, then a lady who did my makeup for me recommended the Kevyn Aucoin ones. They're great and if I lost them I'd replace them in a heartbeat.

topdot · 28/03/2022 11:19

Ooh thanks I'll look those up!

I’ve had the same pair of shu uemera ones since the late 90s, they are perfect and I’m hoping they never break!

Lucia574 · 28/03/2022 19:35

I also like Shu Uemera curlers!

BurntEnds · 28/03/2022 21:04

Yes! Me too. I would be lost without it. I remember hearing years ago that they stopped selling Shu Uemera products in the U.K., but I've just checked and they sell the curlers on Amazon. amzn.to/3Dkjhob

Same here. They are unreal!

Suratt are excellent - Liberty sell them. I was a Shu Uemura fan until they stopped selling in the UK.

thesnaleandthewhail · 28/03/2022 21:58

Lash lifts all the way. Totally worth it

SevernEleven · 28/03/2022 22:31

also have the Kevin Aucoin ones, much prefer them to the Shu Uemura ones.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/03/2022 22:41

Ohh , I've never heard of the Kevin Aucoin ones .

I have tried :
Shu Uemura
Mr Mascara
Revitalash
Tweezerman
Newer BodyShop (had a spring)

None compared to my ancient BodyShop ones which I still use .
I don't do heating ( scared I'll burn myself) but YY to curl at the base-middle-ends .

I know some people curl after mascara but I think its only safe with a silicone strip.

I have rubbish eyelashes but if I make an effort , curl, tightline and mascara , they can look ok.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 28/03/2022 23:01

I never got on with eyelash curlers they barely did anything but then I blasted them with my hairdryer and wow massive difference! (Just don't burn your eye they get hot quick)

JengaTower · 30/03/2022 16:11

I've always had Boots eyelash curlers and always been very happy with them

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/03/2022 16:17

I’m not sure you can buy the shu curlers anymore. I have both shu and Shiseido ones. I really like them both, the Shiseido ones probably fit my eyes a little better than the shu ones, plus you buy replacement pads for them, unlike shu (though the shi pads do fit the shu curler just about)

peachgreen · 30/03/2022 16:24

Tweezerman are the best ones I've had - I didn't like them at first but once I got the hang of them they really started work. Maybelleine's Sky High is the best mascara I've ever used.

BeaLola · 30/03/2022 16:58

Can anyone recommmend for me - small hooded eyes - short straight lashes - I know not a lot oto work with Grin

LoveLabradors · 30/03/2022 17:02

Oh you’ve piqued my interest now- why are they better than the shu ones please Smile

LoveLabradors · 30/03/2022 17:07

Sorry that was for @SevernEleven

SevernEleven · 30/03/2022 17:59

@LoveLabradors

I found that I pinched the outer corner my eyelid a bit with the SU one and I don't with the KA one.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/03/2022 20:42

@SevernEleven same with the Shiseido one, I think it very much depends on your eye shape. The Shu on pinches my eye a bit sometimes (I think it’s better for flatter eye shapes), where as the Shi one seems better for my round eye shape.
