Chanel handbags

If you have a Chanel handbag, how often do you use it?

Do you use it most days, or do you save it for "best" / nice days or evenings out?

And are you ever worried about being mugged for it when you do use it?!

I almost bought one last week, but chickened out at the last minute - went in thinking of getting a wallet on chain, and came out considering a classic instead but unsure as to whether I'd use it enough to justify the cost(!)

I have a GST and a 2.55- I have had the GST for almost a decade now I think and got so much wear our of it. I use it most weekends, on city break type holidays, out for meals etc. Its really versatile and can fit loads in. The 2.55 I tend to keep for 'best' as it has much less room and is more expensive. Have never worried about theft and to be honest there are so many fakes about now I'm not sure how much of a threat there is juat specifically for the name. I just treat it with the same security principles as I would any other bag. I love it and it's probably the best thing I have ever bought.

I've bought a WOC in 2017 and generally use it 'for best', probably more so now but at first I did use it on casual days too. I want to keep it forever so I do limit its outings. Practically though as it doesn't hold much that does reduce how often I use it, depending on how much I carry.
I do love it though!

I don't really worry about being mugged either. If I was I'd probably wear it the other way round with the CC facing my body

The idea was that I would get a WOC and that would be my "out out"/evening bag. I wouldn't worry about using that at all, as I'd probably wear it cross body, and it's quite small and discreet looking.

But then DH thought I'd get more use out of a medium classic and, very unusually for him, was trying to convince me spend even more and to buy one of them.

I think he was swayed by the salesperson telling him how they hold/increase their value but it's obviously a LOT more money, so I'm just trying to figure out which makes more sense for me no I really can't stretch to both

I have a GST which is a nice shopping bag, a few 2.55’s, mini flaps and a deauville tote. Happily wear any of them at any time. Ido save the calfskin 2.55’s for best, as the leather scratches easily. I dont really think about being mugged. I carry a more expensive Hermes bag for daily use. Most people wouldn’t have a clue what it was. As for WOC’s, never bothered as they aren’t really big enough for any use.

I was actually initially thinking of a mini flap, but they are quite difficult to come by!

Agree with your DH get the bag that makes more sense for use. The WOC is very small If it will work get it. If not get a mini or the medium.

I have a jumbo classic flap which I bought with the intention of using it as an everyday bag. But I do worry about it being stolen and it’s not the most practical bag so I find myself using other bags much more often. For day to day use to use my Loewe puzzle, Gucci soho disco or Celine belt bag

I have had several over the years and used them all, a lot, my Classic black went everywhere with me and I still have it. I have just 3 plus a wallet now but rarely take them out as they aren't big enough so am currently thinking about a bigger one, and regretting selling the ones I had.

They make any outfit look 'finished'. A good bag and good shoes and you can wear less expensive clothes and look a million dollars.

I always tuck my bag closely under my arm and hold on to it as if my life depends on it.

I have a medium classic and a WOC, I don’t wear either daily but not just for best either, the WOC comes out a lot for evening wear and in the summer, it’s really versatile. I don’t worry about muggings, I think I assume people could think they were fake. My classic is the better investment for sure. It’s doubled in price in the last 6 years. I wish I’d bought two

I have a jumbo single flap (black caviar, silver hardware) I’ve had it since 2009 and use it maybe 10 times a year tops. I just bought a WOC but I find my jumbo more practical. WOC will be better for evenings out or nipping to the shop. My most used bag is my LV Neverfull

I carry Chanel or Hermes bags most days. I've travelled all over the world with them and never worry about being mugged. They're just bags at the end of the day.

I have five, I wear my black 20inch classic flap the most, but not daily. Three are variations and different colours of the flap and one rattan vanity which is mostly worn in summer. I don’t worry about being mugged. I’ve never had a problem.

Also yes they absolutely hold value. My jumbo was £1400 when I bought it. Current retail is…extortionate and I would get close to that if I wanted to sell it on.

I've got 6 Chanel bags, no classics because I don't like them but I have 3 wocs and I sue them a lot as I don't like to carry much and they are so easy to just wear crossbody when I go out.

If I'm out for the day or I need to carry more I have 2 19's in the small size which is actually quite big ( for me anyway ) and I also have a filigree vanity case in purple which I can only use in the summer due to its rather bright colour.

They are lovely bags and I use them because as someone said upthread, I'm the end they are just bags.

I'm a bag fiend ( I love Dior too ) if I'm going somewhere that I would feel a Chanel is out of place then I use some of my aspinal bags, equally as lovely but I'm less worried about looking 'showy'.

A classic flap will be a great investment, Chanel had 3 price rises last year, I've bought all the Chanel I'm likely to now.

I have three and out of the three I probably use my WOC least as I find it hangs quite low in cross body mode and annoys me.

Medium classic gets used the most, even though it's lamb skin, would probably choose caviar if I ever got another.

Le Boy small flap is used second most, but I got it in a limited colour....so am limited as to when I wear them.

They are beautiful bags, and once I got over the fear of actually using them it's been lovely having them.

I have 2 classic flaps and a mini coco handle. I think they look great but honestly only use them for nice dinners or special occasions as i find the turn lock mechanism such a faff. Also had 2 minis which I sold for the same reason. If you're like me and always getting your phone in and out of your bag I'd probably go for a bag with a zip or magnetic closure.

I probably am overthinking the mugging side of things, but then again I do live in Croydon, so...

I think I've decided to go for the classic flap

Good move OP! I use my classics the least but still regularly, and I love them. My coco handle the most, I have a GST which I used to use every day but much less now and a couple of others that I rotate a bit depending on what goes with what. I don’t have any WOCs but they’re meant to be versatile. My only rule is not to buy any of the same colour. I have some LVs too as they can take a serious bashing even more than caviar leather.

I'd 100% go the the classic if I was you. I have a medium boy bag so slightly different but i use it when ever I need a bag more or less. It was bought for me in 2012 and going strong!
