Help, I know nothing about hair dye!

I have a few times in the past dabbled with semi-permanent home dye, but now have quite a bit of grey and it just wasn't covering.

I decided to take the plunge and went for my first ever permanent colour at a salon.

The colour really does not suit me, it's too solid, too dark and too brassy. It looks fake and makes me look older. Bit annoying as the only stipulations I made were to look natural and no reddish undertones. Sad

So, my question is, can anything be done without really damaging my already very dry frizzy hair? Was wondering if highlights might help but don't even know if you can do this over newly dyed hair?

I've had a google and see there are products that claim to reduce the brassiness, has anybody had any success with these?

On the plus side it does look much smoother, shinier and healthier than before.
