Please help me find a summer party outfit

I’d be really grateful for any ideas as I’m drawing a blank.

I’m going to a party this summer and trying to get ahead finding an outfit but it’s proving difficult. I’m 45 and I don’t want to look frumpy though obv not MDAL. I’d prefer a dress but it has to be at least midaxl in length as I don’t want to show my knees, absolutely NOT empire line and not weddings/bridesmaidy/black tie. Plain preferably. Oh and suitable with flats as I cannot do any kind of heel.

Or would another outfit work? I’d like to be smarter than jeans & top, just not TOO smart as it will be fairly laid-back. Basically I’d like to look grown up and sophisticated and cool without trying.

Im size 10-12, 5’6, decent boobs, don’t like my upper arms, and have a massive post pregnancy tummy that needs camouflaging somehow.

Sorry that’s a lot to ask, I’m sure you fashion geniuses have some ideas! Thanks

Did you see the dress that kate had on in Belize today? Just saw it on the news so i will google it. Possibly be more than 300 though.

Kate as in William's wife - can never remember which duchess she is.

Tory Burch apparently.

And i see she is D of Cambridge.

What sort of party is it? Day? Night? Venue? Dinner? Dancing?

SooopDragon · 21/03/2022 09:00

Thanks for those suggestions, I’ll try those. Lovely dresses in Temperly.

It’s in the evening, in a venue rather than a house, I think it will be pretty relaxed but sophisticated if that makes sense

Rixo dresses are lovely and very flattering. Have a look at their website. Expensive, but within your budget and so worth it!

If you like the tori burch dress but want something less pricey Pink City Prints is worth a look as they have a similar style. I have a PCP dress I always get loads of compliments on and it's really well made (the fabrics are all hand-printed in India).

I like the monsoon dresses posted up thread too.

If youre only going to wear it once maybe rent it instead. Mywardrobehq have dresses, shies and accessories and have Temperley if you like her designs.

LK Bennet might fit the bill too.

If I had £300 to buy a dress for a smart casual summer do I'd would without question splash out on one of the gorgeous tie waist ones from Roxane Baines. I found them after stopping someone in the street last year as she look amazing in such a simple dress and she was really chuffed and said she always got compliments when she wore it (she had a pale blue one but I rather like the navy or blush) roxanebaines.com/product-category/dresses/
