What to wear on weekend away in Scotland

We are going away in next weekend and as I have spent the last two years rugby tackling sheep I don't have any idea what to wear!

Saturday we will be in a town centre - so I ordered black/blue jeans, a white top and a coral blazer with white fairfax trainers? Is this ok?

Sunday is Mother's Day so a walk, Sunday lunch and possibly Segway thing. What do I wear for that?

If you have any links or ideas I would love to see them please.

I am 41, tanned, blonde, 5'3 and size 8/10

My usual attire is jeans and country boots and Barbour jacket as we live in deepest darkest countryside! I'm always cold - I love dresses but it won't be warm enough for that.

Thank you!!!

Scotland in April?
Exactly as you were op. Plenty of layers!! No bare ankles!
No bare head!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/03/2022 19:41

My usual Scotland attire is very similar to what you describe as your usual attire. The weather looks nice for next weekend in most places but it’ll still be chilly. I’d wear jeans, top and boots, sorry that’s no help 😂

weebarra · 20/03/2022 19:47

Yes, I'm in Edinburgh but in the highlands this weekend and it was warm in the sun - high of 14 degrees! So layers!!

bettertocryinamercedes · 20/03/2022 19:48

Ah I see. The trouble is, my husband is really stylish and has lots of lovely clothes. He likes everything designer and I'm a next shopper!

So I kinda wanted to be smart but also warm! Everything nice that I have is for summer

I ordered dubarry boots last week and they came but were too wide so I had to return them. Don't know if they will be back in time.

Sunday lunch tho - I can't turn up in jeans and a jumper can I???!

😂 clueless

Outfits sounds fine however I would ask which city you are going to.

Glasgow tends to be dressier than Edinburgh in my experience with more make up/ fake tan and jewellery in evidence. I really noticed it when I was there the other week - my gore tex jacket which I would wear without hesitation in Edinburgh looked super scruffy.

bettertocryinamercedes · 20/03/2022 19:48

Yes Glasgow and Loch Lomond

We actually live very much further north of here so I am used to the cold. Don't get to the city much!

I would totally turn up to Sunday lunch in jeans and a jumper. Latter would probably be cashmere. I'd have a nice scarf and some discrete jewellery and decent boots/ bag with me.

(And the gore tex jacket!!!)

You definitely don’t dress up for Sunday lunch here!

PenelopeProsser · 20/03/2022 19:51

If West Coast I'd pick more blingy jewellery than I would wear in Edinburgh and not skip make up.

I was out in Glasgow city centre Princes Square area and it was much smarter than Edinburgh despite the fact I was there at lunch time and the place I went to in Edinburgh for dinner on the same day was actually more expnsive/ upmarket....

Are you going to Cameron House or equivalent (has it even re-opened yet).

Itsbackagain · 20/03/2022 19:55

All good in general. Sunday lunch - well it depends where you're eating tbh.

Iamkmackered1979 · 20/03/2022 19:58

Swap jeans for trousers on but otherwise I think you’ll look lovely probably very similar to what you wear already

bettertocryinamercedes · 20/03/2022 20:02

So Glasgow will be shopping and braehead while boys are at football. Jeans / top / blazer for this??

Sunday lunch I imagine a nice country pub near Loch Lomond. Perhaps I better look at booking as it's Mother's Day

I’m in Glasgow so I’d recommend layers and SPF, it’s really sunny for the next week but bloody cold in the shade. So, potentially sunburn and a chill.

Mum5net · 20/03/2022 20:03

Cashmere jumper with textured jacket (wool?) and jeans just fine for lunch. Annoying about Dubarry boots. Wool scarf in reserve in case windy at Loch Lomond or even hat

bettertocryinamercedes · 20/03/2022 20:05

I've got a nice black wool coat - think it's Karen millen but I've only worn it once.

It's maybe too night out for daytime tho?

I love this coat / jumper but the coat is nowhere to be seen on the river island website.

I think you're really overthinking this. I'd turn up at Braehead dressed as I am right now, in leggings and a sweatshirt... (Basically my pyjamas). Swap the Saturday outfit to Sunday with boots if you're walking any distance, it might be muddy. Saturday I think you could wear literally anything. Dress, black tights and boots? I know you said it's too cold for dresses but it's warm enough with tights and boots.

Mindtheears · 20/03/2022 20:51

I’d wear jeans and a jumper wherever I go. Is fine.

Amelion · 20/03/2022 21:33

Jeans and a jumper would be fine! I’d probably pick my favourite jeans and jumper for a Sunday lunch at a pub but wouldn’t dress up more than that. But definitely might be cold - especially once it gets dark, the temps will drop.

Doidontimmm · 21/03/2022 06:20

You are way way over thinking this! No one is going to notice what you are wearing! Just wear your normal everyday clothes for shopping!

Mycatisfabulous · 21/03/2022 06:22

A coat. It’s cold there.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 21/03/2022 06:27

Wear thermals.

I went to Scotland in June once and wore thermals and my winter coat every day. It is cold, windy and even thought the sun may be out, there is no warmth in it.

JenniferWooley · 21/03/2022 06:55

I'm confused by those saying Glasgow is dressier than Edinburgh! I was in Glasgow on Friday & would hardly call what people were wearing dressy - it was mostly jeans/jumpers/sports type trainers with a few people in suits/work wear as heading out straight from work.

I always find Edinburgh a bit more understated than Glasgow so it's the same type of outfits but just that bit more classic. Instead of Nike sport type trainers it'll be converse etc.

For braehead OP just wear what you usually wear it's no different to any other shopping centre.

For Sunday lunch it really depends where you're going I suppose as it does no matter which city you're in.
