Another wedding guest outfit advice thread

I’ve been invited to an informal seaside wedding in May. I am absolutely stumped about what to wear! My dress style tends towards the more simple and structured (so I feel at odds with the prevailing fashions) - I really don’t suit the fussy, floral, frilly dresses that abound at the moment. The sort of classic, simple fitted dress I would probably choose will be really out of place. But I keep drawing blanks .. perhaps I’m not looking in the right places or dismissing styles.. I don’t know.

I’ve seen others get really good advice and suggestions on here, so I’m hoping to get some for myself!

I’m 41 (fortunate to look mid 30s), 5’4, size 10, decent legs, small boobs, like to hide/flatter my belly, probably inverted triangle-ish. Very pale with long curly red hair, freckles, dimples (no cheekbones to speak of 😔). Very happy in heels, especially if it’s the decider between midi length looking frumpy on my short frame, though I suspect most women will be in flats.

Put me in a tea dress and I look like I’ve stepped out of 1940 and frills make me look like an overgrown Shirley Temple. I pretty much live in COS, simple cuts and block colours. But I am willing to branch out, so long as it doesn’t swamp me in florals!

Thank you so much in advance!

I like this sort of style, midi with a slit and fitted bodice. I have a similar sleeveless one by Abercrombie that I really like.

When looking for the above I also saw this and loved it. But not sure if it is too formal for the event you describe, and too fussy for your tastes.

Thanks both! This is exactly why I asked - you have me looking at things I’d never have considered.

@Ebananascroogey I love the greens you’ve linked to, but I think they might be a little too on the casual side (it’s seaside town registry office and bar, rather than beach itself). But I might get the green crepe dress anyway.

@SummaLuvin now that long sleeve dress I’d have scrolled right past (though I’d forgotten about Abercrombie) but it could be just the thing! I love the neckline and the way the dress flows. Thank you! I couldn’t see the other (second) dress you linked to though - could you post it again?

What about this?

Or this slightly more casual one? (Might be too casual but would look good with wedges.)

Personally I love this one!
