I have recently bought a load of clothes after accepting the size and shape I am. That limits my choices, but if you have a good figure then you can choose what you fancy!
It is nice to have a wardrobe of stuff I like.
It started as a half arsed idea and then I suddenly thought, right, imma do a job lot so I don't have to shop for ages. (I hadn't really shopped for years before).
So I bought tops/t shirts, jumpers, cardis/jackets. I looked at sites like Asos and Zalando with lots of brands, and scrolled through a lot before deciding what shape and colour. I didn't have a big budget either so you can stop your search as soon as you hit the point of "too much money for one item". I have literally got 7 t shirts in the same shape (loose fitting) with 2 white, 2 black, 3 colours.
For jeans and joggers, it's obvious for me I can only do straight leg. If you suit more than one type, then it's different. But if overwhelmed by choice, maybe say "I'm going to select one top, one sweater, one pair of jeans, buy those and see how it goes".
Re colours, frankly, I pick what I like. It's me that's got to wear it and like it. My sister had her colours done and is keen to stick with what she was told suited her. That's not my way at all. Only you can make that decision.
Someone, somewhere will think my outfit is shit and someone will love it. But the only person who needs to love it is me!
Also, everything I bought goes in the washing machine.
