Make up base help!

I've always used a sweep of Clinique loose powder as a base and been happy with that, but they seem to be having major stock issues and I've had no luck finding a replacement. I've tried some powder compacts;
L'Oréal true match - barely looks like I've put anything on my face but not in a good way!
L'Oréal infallible foundation in a powder is okay until I am in natural light then it shows every line on my face in an incredibly unflattering way, makes me look 10 years older!
Maybelline Fit Me, this was just meh, couldn't see any benefit to it.
Max Factor Miracle Touch highlighted dry patches I didn't know existed!
So I am 46 years old and no idea what to put on my face for subtle coverage, nothing as heavy as foundation. I am dark hair, blue eyes, pale skin prone to rosy cheeks, proper Irish complexion! Help, I've no idea what to try next!
