Hello, a lovely friend if getting good married in late April. I am going alone and I feel a bit nervous so ideally would like to find something that I look nice in to boost my confidence. I am mid 30s size 18 (due to medication). Ideally a dress, open on budget for the right thing would like to look a bit refined if possible. Thank you so much for any advice

What are the bits of yourself that you want to accentuate?

SleepingStandingUp · 19/03/2022 20:53

What shape are you op? Size 18 could mean lots of different things. Pear, Round, Hour Glass? Are you happy to show your arms? Legs? I'm not being snooty, I'm bigger than you, but thinking what do you want the dress to do for you?

Joanna Hope does some nice dresses.

Oh thank you so much. I would prefer to hide my upper arms and tummy. I am an hourglass/apple.

@flyingiseasy Thank you for these suggestions. I am not sure that are quite what I am looking for.

No links but I'm the same size and shape as you and a wrap dress is always flattering.

@livinginhope87 Post if you do and if it's as nice on as it looks! I wish I had an excuse to buy it...sighs... 😁

Have a wonderful day in any case, you'll look and feel wonderful in whatever you choose to wear, I'm sure.

This one from Sainsbury 's is lovely. I saw it in store and it looks great on the hanger.

Palavah · 20/03/2022 07:00

Big difference between apple and hourglass! Do you have a defined waist?

livinginhope87 · 20/03/2022 07:46

@Palavah yes! I have a defined waist but carry weight on my tummy. I have broad shoulders, narrow waist and then broader hips. It make it tricky to find things that fit well.

Oo does it I would worry it will cling but might see if my local store has one to try. Thank you

Def hour glass then. I don't think the sainsbury one would cling, I think it will flow. OldTinHats was lovely too
