How to get a hair style like this?

I have my 40th birthday party at the weekend and would love to have my hair like this! It's the right length, but how do I get the waves? I only have a hair straightener but it's square shaped so not sure if that would work! It's about 20 years old so I'm open to replacing, or would some tongs work better? And I don't know where to start with products!
Hair is naturally straight and fairly thick, spends most of its time in a pony tail 😁
Thank you!

Can you curl your hair around the straightness to create a wave?

This is created with straightners, if you look on YouTube you'll find tutorials, it’s all in the angle you twist the straighteners in - have a practice

This should be double with straighteners

I'd book a hairdressers appt just to make sure that when it's done it stays in. And they could show you how to do it

Thanks everyone, I'll stick with my straighteners and have a practice!

Always turn straighteners away from your face. Use something like ThermaSpray from KMS to give it hold. Do not pull out the waves until you are finished. Use hairspray to fix. Loads of tutorials on You Tube.
