Green flat shoes? Wedding outfit help please!

Hi style experts, I am a sad failure on the fashion front, spending most of my time in smelly farm clothes, and I have been invited to a wedding in a couple of months (I’m in Australia so it will be Autumn and still fairly warm)
I have bought a dress that I fell in love with late one night after some wine. I didn’t think things through, just went with my heart, and now I have no idea how to dress in it.

The wedding is in a barn on a farm, so will be fairly rustic and bohemian.

I have to wear low or flat shoes, not too pointy toed, that have decent arch support as my feet are falling apart and bones stick out where they shouldn’t. Also we will be on dirt/grass mostly.

This is my dress kharakapas.com/collections/indian-wear/products/green-off-shoulder-gown
I may put a narrow belt on it?

I really love nancy macs green shrugs www.nancymac.co.uk/collections/shrugs but can’t justify that cost on a shrug- I could give making one a go if anyone knows a pattern that works (they seem very different to the usual kimono shape).

I don’t know though- will I just be a big shapeless green blob in all that? Maybe a neat cropped jacket?

I’m size 10 and tall, but I am older and things are droopy…

Anyway, I need shoes (green? Gold?) and a jacket of some sort, can anyone help me? I don’t mind UK shopping- I’m from there originally. Thank you!

I really like the dress and think with your height this could look stunning.

I wouldn't do green shoes or a green jacket as that is too much green and the colours will never match correctly. I would go with a gold shoes, maybe a gold wedge or gold sandal.

I also really like the jewelry they are styling this dress with and would suggest copying that.

I would make sure you use boob tape to hold everything up too and then you won't need to worry about a bra.

As for a jacket maybe something like this:

I am in Australia too. Look at the Bared Footwear website for gorgeous shoes, designed by a podiatrist. I won’t wear anything else now.
They are on the expensive side but sign up to the website - they regularly have sales on all styles, and the discounts are good.

ChainAusten · 19/03/2022 10:01

Thank you!

I like those shoes @rosewater20rosewater, but I have metatarsalgia, a tailors bunion, and hammer toes, at the very least I need something very well supported underneath. I live my life in sfb birkenstocks, so it is going to be a challenge! I have seen bared footwear @user1471595474, it’s always hard to know without trying them, so I’m grateful for a recommendation.

I was thinking of a pashmina but then I read the other current thread and assumed they were horribly out of style!

Gold or silver shoes!

KimikosNightmare · 19/03/2022 10:22

Ignore that thread. They are not out of style. Your dress is lovely but I think it will be impossible to get a jacket which doesn't look odd.

A tailored jacket would look weird. The shrug type jackets will be too droopy and too much material. Both will hide the dress in the way a pashmina or shawl won't.

Re shoes - anything here?

ChainAusten · 19/03/2022 10:23

Can anyone point me in the direction of some more dressy shoes or wedges that are well structured and padded but still pretty?
I think the bared ones will be a problem for my toes/neuropathy

The site your dress is from - wow !

These are listed as "everyday dresses" but several could be the answer to the many " what can I wear to a wedding?" threads.

What about the metallic ballet pumps?

Hotter are extremely comfortable. They're not the most glamorous shoes but your dress is long and so glamorous you'll be fine with shoes that are unobtrusive rather than wow factor in their own right.

BlanketsBanned · 19/03/2022 10:48

Imthink the dress would look good with a shawl

SirVixofVixHall · 19/03/2022 10:53

Lovely dress ! How is their sizing op ?
My friend with very similar foot problems has the Hotter tourist sandals in gold, and they look good in real life. I have checked their website and they don’t seem to have gold this year but they do have gold in the Arizona which is very similar.
Hotter can be a bit old lady, so I was surprised when my friend said where her sandals were from, but another stylish friend with foot issues has them in yellow. I am going to get myself a pair as they are very comfortable. www.hotter.comgb/en/womens-sandals
The Tourist comes in different widths, but not the Arizona.

ChainAusten · 19/03/2022 11:39

@KimikosNightmare I love so many shoes there but I don’t think my feet will. I have no fat pad on the ball of my foot, so my bones joints there need lots of lifting/padding. Apart from one random pair of Merrell sandals (which I hope last forever) my choices are distinctly orthotic- think naot, alegria, birkis.

I’m very glad a pashmina will work! That solves that problem.
So many of the dresses are wow! I nearly bought the white dress in the sale too, but then remembered it was a wedding…

@SirVixofVixHall I haven’t had anything from them before but my friend has and says the sizing and quality is good.

Hotter is a great idea, I had forgotten them!

TooMinty · 19/03/2022 13:03

Wow, that dress is gorgeous - I wish I was tall enough to wear it.

If you find Birkenstocks comfy, what about just slightly fancier ones? Metallic? Or the have wedges in light brown that would probably work.

CPL593H · 19/03/2022 13:22

Lovely dress. I think a pashmina would be fine, ? possibly pale gold (and BIG and drapey would be good, those dress styles would often be worn with dupattas) and gold shoes or green shoes. They sound more problematic but as long as fairly plain (and obviously comfortable) I don't think anyone would notice!

I think a blush pink would work with the sage green, either in the shoes, or wrap, or what ever you go for.

ChainAusten · 19/03/2022 13:51

Thank you, I’m glad everyone likes the dress and thinks a shawl will work. Anyone think it needs a belt?

@EllaPaella I completely love those shoes, I wish they mentioned how padded the insole is, I might message them.

@TooMinty it may have to be that is my choice, I just always hanker after dainty now I can’t have it! Has anyone tried frankie4?
Bared have these bared.com.au/products/currawong-iii-blush-leather-ballet-flats but not really the right colour I don’t think. I’m not keen on the ones they have in green or gold.
Could I get away with these? bared.com.au/products/brolga-leopard-print-calf-hair-ballet-flats

No idea if my foot will fit them, one is very wide at the toes @user1471595474 are they a roomy fit?

Ooo @midsomermurderess that’s the colour of the flat shoe I just linked!

OP posts:
midsomermurderess · 19/03/2022 13:57

Sorry, it's a bit of a forest of links. Yes, along those lines. The gold would be a bit, behold Greek goddess! for me

TooMinty · 19/03/2022 14:12

I love Birkenstocks but it's true that if I had to wear them rather than choose to then I might go off them!

Those bared ones are very nice - you have time to order some to try and send back if necessary?

ChainAusten · 19/03/2022 14:14

@midsomermurderess it wasn’t a criticism- I was pleased as I wasn’t sure they would go, and then you had posted mentioning that colour in the meantime 😄

OP posts:
ChainAusten · 19/03/2022 14:18

@TooMinty yes I have two pairs the same style (gizeh) which have been specially adapted for me. I am supposed to wear them all the time.

Yes I think I have time, do you think the leopard print would go too?

OP posts:
wonkylegs · 19/03/2022 14:19

@ChainAusten have a look at fitflop sandals - I have some gold ones that work for me, I've also got silver superballerinas from them
I have RA, collapsing arches and Hallux Rigidus (fixed big toe) so completely understand the difficulties of finding something pretty but comfy.

midsomermurderess · 19/03/2022 14:24
