I'm really panicking. These random red and brown patches have appeared on my face 😩 I have started using The Ordinary granactive retinoid thjs week. It's not the first time I've used retinol but it's the first time I've used this product. I use azelaic acid, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide too but have done for months. I also had microneedling done at the weekend but I've had it done many times before. What is causing this and will it go away??

Are you using ( factor 50 ) sunscreen ? I’m just wondering if the products, particularly retinol, have made you more susceptible to the effects of the Sun ?

Maisa45 · 17/03/2022 18:04

I've been using 30. Should I switch to 50?

Is it hormonal? I got this in my 20s, now since having children it has gone. Have you changed contraception?

You're doing too much. Microneedling at the weekend and now 4-5 days later a retinol. Your skin is going to be very sensitive. I say that with experience of pigmentation marks on my face. Def a sunscreen as other poster has said, but I would be treating my skin fairly gently over the next week or so.

Maisa45 · 17/03/2022 19:52

@FoggySpecs I don't think so! I'm not on any contraception.

@Valhalla17 You're probably right. I need to be more sensible.

Will it go away??

Yes it should calm down. Suggest you load up on spf and see how it goes over the next few weeks. If it doesn't go away see a derm or try some alpha arbutin. Alpha arbutin helped mine to fade and doesn't increase sun sensitivity etc.
