Short cut for fine hair - wwyd?

I can’t make up my mind and I really need some help! I’ve got shoulder length layered hair, very fine, poor condition. It just seems to always look stringy or standing out in all directions at the moment so I usually stick it in a ponytail. It’ll never be swishy! I’d love a definite style that looks more professional but without looking dowdy (in my early 40’s and still have some baby weight to loose). Although I love them I’m worried about having a short/pixie type cut and it takes ages to grow if I hate it. Any style/cut recommendations for super fine hair and not much time to style it? All the pictures for fine haircuts seem to have thicker hair than mine!

I'm also interested to find put. I have really fine hair and after having my baby last year my hair was falling out in masses and now I have lots of short bits sticking out at the front. I look ridiculous. Usually tie my hair up and wear a headband.

I've found having higlights helps - gives hair some more thickness and volume. I have it cut in a very short bob type style with a few layers

I have very fine hair and currently have a blunt, chin length bob. Stay away from layers. I've had a pixie cut before that made my hair look fuller and I really liked it. I got bored and grew it out which was painful though!

After years of growing then chopping the growing my fine hair, I've settled on a sort of 'Meg Ryan back in the day' cut with string highlights. Best thing I've done to my hair. Takes 2 mins to blow dry then 30 seconds with some clay and sorted. Short but not too short, mines a bit longer than this photo, so has enough volume to avoid flopping and not too boring because of all the texture/shagginess of the cut and highlights.

String = strong

I have fine hair and have a stacked bob with highlights and a couple of blue flashes on the longer under layers at the sides. It gives my hair a bit of oomph and texture and stops it looking so weedy.

Sounds similar to me! Recently had a baby though so currently have the shedding of hair going on which is driving me crazy. I don't have the face shape or delicate enough features to pull off a short do, which I hear is best for fine hair, so I try to grow it long but wear clip in extensions to stop it looking stringy, I also use a barrel brush when blowdrying to add volume to the roots after using Bed Head by Tigi Small Talk Hair Volume Styling Cream for Fine Hair on the root area which makes it thicker and fuller, rather than flat.
