Does anyone else actually love the 70s/90s and Y2K styles?

I'm not keen on fast fashion, so I'm reluctant to go out and buy the colourful mesh crop tops, platform sandals, lilac cargo troursers etc. HOWEVER I really enjoy browsing and seeing all these groovy styles back in fashion again! I'd happily wear this stuff if I didn't feel that it would be a waste when it goes out of fashion again. Any MNers wearing this stuff or are we all too old to be wearing this style a second or third time? Grin

Cargo pants are definitely back in

Ooh goody! Does that mean I can dig out my ultra low rise ones with the half in zip and be down with the kids?

Half inch zip.

XingMing · 17/03/2022 20:21

It does @Zazdar, but you might want to wear a mask if anyone paps you!

70s yes! The 70s were a great decade for fashion. The 90s saw me wearing lots of Pam Hogg catsuits, John Richmond, neoprene and fur, Gucci clogs and Chippie trainers, hotpants with Wolford bodies and Nicholas Deakin boots.

Y2k I was wearing Prada skirts and kitten heels, silk neck scarves and DVF dresses I'd gone all lady-like! That was a brief flirtation with adulthood that didn’t last.

I still wear the Wolford. I'm not sure the rest would translate too well!

The 70s though is a rich seam of inspiration! So much music, so many great films.

Maybe the half inch zip was the progenitor of public hair removal. I think it was the first and only time in women's fashion that the hip-bones were the focus.

I remember the outrage at Alexander McQueen's 'bumster' trousers that kicked the whole trend off.

public hair removal

My local shopping centre has a pop-up eyebrow threading stand.Does that count?

Not keen on 70s but love 90s and Y2K fashion (along with 80s, but that had a revival in the late 00s when I was in my late teens).

I don’t go for fast fashion but when places like Lucy & Yak release the 80s/90s styles prints I’m all over them. I also love it that sports labels like Champion and Berghaus seem to be fashionable now when they weren’t deemed cool back in the 90s/Y2K.

No it was fucking hideous the first time around
Where's the octopus combats/cargo pants ? Worn with heels? Bindis in the forehead ( probably not allowed now)
Name on beads around neck? Henna hands?
Little butterfly clips in twirled hair?

Oh Christ. All awful
And " mom " jeans can get lost. Disgusting on everyone.

I’m wearing flares, platforms and a leather blazer. I’ve pretty much always dressed like this though, apart from a short (misguided) dalliance with skinnies. Grin
