Calling those with light olive skin

I'm half Asian but quite fair. My complexion is on the yellow side and I find it hard to find even tinted moisturizer which is a good colour. It's usually too pinky, or too peachy or too dark. I'm really self conscious to go to a counter.

Please recommend what you use in terms of tinted moisturizer/ bb or cc creams and brands which cater to more yellow tones.

I have light olive skin and use the no. 7 bb cream in fair which is actually quite dark for something called fair. It’s a nice light beige not pink at all.

Debroglie · 15/03/2022 19:28

Scrap that. It appears to have been discontinued. Boo.
Another bb cream I have liked is the body shop one but I can’t remember which shade.

declutteringmymind · 15/03/2022 19:31

I'm a medium olive and yellow toned I use the Bobbi brown serum foundation and always get comments on how good my skin looks. I went for a make up lesson and asked for a dewy finish. I think the shade I have is honey.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2022 19:34

Try Shiseido.

FirkleingFree · 15/03/2022 19:41

I find maybelline to be the best for me, they have shades with no pink in them. No.7, Rimmell etc all seem too pink.

Sweetwindinmyhead · 15/03/2022 19:43

NARS. I have yellow undertones and that’s the closest I’ve had to my complexion

Ohyesiam · 15/03/2022 19:44

I use a boots No 7 Foundation called Intelligent Colour. It’s more like a tinted moisturiser, and it’s very sheer for a foundation, but the medium suits my light olive skin.

MerryMarigold · 15/03/2022 21:46

Thanks all! I'm going to have a look at some of these 'in person'.

The Lisa Eldridge foundation has a good colour range for olives. Heard she's working on a tinted moisturiser type thing atm.

Bussinbussin · 16/03/2022 05:07

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue in Suede.

It's a beautiful product, if you can get the shade right for you.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 16/03/2022 05:26

Nars Groenland or a shade lighter.

Thinking2041 · 16/03/2022 05:41

It’s got to be Bobbi brown
They specialise in olive to darker skin.

I discovered their ‘foundation stick’ when I was 15 years old. Since then Depsite having worked in something related to beauty and been given and had access to tons and tons of products nothing else comes close.

The name is deceptive. It isn’t a foundation- it isn’t thick at all. More like a tinted moisturiser. Not cheap but lasts a long time.

Thinking2041 · 16/03/2022 05:42

I actually use their ‘beige’ colour and its got a yellow base. All their products do

ParadiseLaundry · 16/03/2022 05:57

I've been using the cheap Nivea BB cream and feel it works well, I have the same issue with things looking too pink.

iloveeverykindofcat · 16/03/2022 05:59

I'm ethnically Arab (Iraqi so pretty light/lots of European admixture). I used Maybelline concealer in the tone 'sand' over a green primer. Its perfect in summer. Sometimes in winter it gets too dark though so I'm open to more options for that, but I definitely need the yellow tone.

bookish83 · 16/03/2022 06:13

@FiddlefigOnTheRoof

Nars Groenland or a shade lighter.
Same!
YoudaftChump · 16/03/2022 06:16

Bobbi Brown or YSL . I once tried a sample of Dior, the consistency wasn't right but it was a good colour match.

Justdiscovered · 16/03/2022 06:18

Christian Dior definitely

MooMinCow · 16/03/2022 08:09

EX1 foundation or mineral powder (available in boots or Superdrug) formulated by an Asian lady for olive/golden skin tones. You can always mix a pump of it into your moisturiser for a tinted moisturiser effect. Failing that MAC Face and Body tint in a ‘C’ shade will be yellow toned.

MissMarpleRocks · 16/03/2022 08:10

Bare minerals for me

NotquitewhatImeant · 16/03/2022 08:33

I have pale yellow skin too and look ill if I wear a pink toned base - they seem to go grey on me. Definitely Bobbi Brown, I think most of theirs are yellow based. Some of the paler Nars (I’m a Norwich or Alaska) and bare minerals shades are good too and i can use some no7 foundations.

Purpleavocado · 16/03/2022 09:11

I have pale olive skin, I like the Beauty Pie Tinted Moisturiser.

dontgobaconmyheart · 16/03/2022 10:35

Nars tend to have yellow undertones, particularly in the fairer shades. It depends how fair you are really OP.

If you use Reddit ( or even if you don't) google "oliveMUA reddit" and check out the forum posts, there are bags of swatches for all of the tones of olive skin, including fair.

I have a very definite olive undertone but am very very fair in winter, though it pulls more green than it does yellow. In summer I go a deep brown if i stay in the sun, at which point my skin looks brown with that same green undertone. Yellow undertoned foundations look awful on me and I have much more luck with Korean BB creams and foundations in the fairer shades. The formulas are lovely and usually packed full of SPF etc so a cut above what you can usually pick up at Boots.

I'm using the Missha Perfect cover BB cream at the moment and am liking it but am yet to find a dud. Purito cica clearing bb cream is another favourite. The only thing I would say is that they are better suited to drier skin and an oily skin type might find them a bit much but otherwise they are fab.

Nyx born to glow is also nice, I swatched some in superdrug yesterday and the shade range seemed good. If you need something more matte then Revlon colourstay in Buff.

NotquitewhatImeant · 16/03/2022 11:40

@dontgobaconmyheart thanks for the reddit suggestion, the pale olive stuff makes a lot of sense, I’ve always had a green neck and wondered why - mind blown

ambereeree · 16/03/2022 12:34

I'm Indian and very fair with a yellow undertone. I use channel tinted moisturiser or smashbox primer.
