Plus size summer wedding guest outfit

Looking for a dress to wear as a wedding guest this summer. It’s a fancy wedding on a very fancy estate and we’ll be attending the whole day.

Here are the specifics:

  • Apple shaped size 20, G cup boobs
  • Mid brown hair and pale-ish skin
  • No green or purple please
  • Hate my belly & im not a big fan of the tops of my arms so having them covered would be nice but I can live with them not being 🤣 (the arms that is, not the belly - it must be covered! 🤣)
  • it’s my first “event” that I’ll be attending with my toddler after all these lockdowns so the more “chasing the child” friendly it is, the better 🤣
  • I have a decent shoe collection so can probably find shoes/bag to go with most things

Budget up to £250 absolute maximum, but obviously would be happier spending much less if possible 😊 work your magic for me Mumsnet 🤞🏼❤️

I wore a Scarlett and Jo dress to a wedding a few years ago. Most of their dresses have short sleeves and they are comfortable to wear. Under £100 too.

I’m the same kind of size and find the formal end of the plus size market pretty uninspiring if you want something that fits, is made of decent material and is fashion relevant. Lots of it is very safe and not quite special enough. I include Marina Rinaldi in that - great for coats but otherwise I don’t think very interesting for the money.

Anna Scholz can be good - I have a couple of excellent pieces from her - but it’s a bit hit and miss. I couldn’t see anything to fit the bill for you right now. Much cheaper but often excellent is Mango. I am similarly proportioned and find their plus size clothes very well cut (I’ve been able to buy a fab trouser suit just off the peg from them which was thrilling!). I thought everything in their range looked a bit day/office right now but worth keeping an eye out. I bought a brilliant dress at Christmas.

I look best in stronger colours and I’m not sure if those work for you - but here are a few thoughts

Thank you everyone 😊 sorry, I’m just getting caught back up on here after a day or 2 of chaos 😅 I’ll take a look at all your suggestions - some brands I haven’t heard of before so always nice to find something new!

@Tangelo That’s the exact same thing that I find with the formal end of plus size! There’s always something about it that just doesn’t quite work!! Absolutely love some of those dresses that you’ve linked!! The Monsoon nude wrap dress is beautiful! I might pop to a store and try it on - although I’d prefer it knee length as midi dresses don’t do much for me, so might see how easy it would be to have altered.
The print on that Hope & Ivy one from ASOS is GORGEOUS!! But the style would not do well on me at all! Off to investigate in the hope that they’ve used the print elsewhere Grin

@BaffledMum22 I sew a bit and think that Monsoon dress would be v straightforward to shorten. Hope it looks great on you!

Are you still looking? I just bought this for an evening do but think it would be nice for a wedding. I felt nice and comfortable all evening even after the meal.

The sizing was generous so you might be ok with the 18

I’m rather booby and love a wrap dress, plus covers my upper arms so added bonus.

This is my latest favourite, and it’s a bargain
