Massive frilly collars?

Who is wearing these monstrosities? I've seen them in the shops but I've yet to see a real woman wearing them. Are they for young fashionistas only or have I completely lost my fashion pulse?

Me! I love them! I have to admit the first time I saw them pop up during fashion week, I thought no one would ever wear them. Now I absolutely love statement collars. I am 21 though.

DramaAlpaca · 14/03/2022 00:45

I think they are too much and I can't imagine they look good on many women. I do like a bit of a frill, but only a subtle one. Really not a fan of the oversized frilly collar.

My colleagues in their 20s wear them.

Thoosa · 14/03/2022 01:54

I think you have to not remember these things first time around to succumb.

Big collars remind me of being made to wear childhood outfits I hated. It’s a kind of inoculation,

It will be knickerbockers and rara skirts next.

TV presenter Angela Scanlon mostly!

I work with someone who wears them and to go with the big collars she has puffy sleeves. It makes a statement....

ScreamIntoTheWind · 14/03/2022 07:18

One of my colleagues wears them too. I just assume she’s much more fashionable and stylish than me.

Nitgel · 14/03/2022 07:20

New puritanical age fashion.

Milomonster · 14/03/2022 07:43

I love big collars (not the frilly type in the pic above). I’m flat chested and they detract from that a little. I have a coat, jacket and a couple of cardis with big round collars, and they look gorgeous. Depends how you wear them.

MoiraNotRuby · 14/03/2022 07:45

I saw a woman wearing one on a train and thought she looked great. I don't think I'd wear one myself as I need my shoulders free for handbag/rucksack straps so I'd get them crumpled. But I love to see people decorating themselves, it feels like an up yours to the last shitty couple of years.

Seniorandjunior · 14/03/2022 09:52

I like them on others, not so much on me. I feel wrong in them.

And a bit sister-wife.

Boood · 14/03/2022 09:59

The frill & lace & floral & pink in the one above is too much, and that particular lace is particularly nasty, but in a plainer fabric I like them.

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/03/2022 10:04

I like them and often think they look great on others when styled well. I don't own anything with a really huge collar but have a couple of shirts/jumpers with them that I've enjoyed wearing. I do think they've had their moment a bit though so don't reach for them that much now relative to last year.

Presumably these things are subjective.

PrancingPalomino · 14/03/2022 10:39

Me, I’m 41 and I look brilliant in my big, fancy collars.

MapleMay11 · 14/03/2022 12:41

Me as well - I love them. Ancient old fart. Grin

Zazdar · 14/03/2022 12:45

No! Just no!

CointreauVersial · 14/03/2022 13:28

I bought this denim shirt from Monsoon in the sales.......and that is as big and frilly as I intend to go!

I'm 55, and not a "frilly" person generally, but this allows me to dip my toe into the trend, and the denim toughens it up a little.

ExConstance · 14/03/2022 13:50

Cathirae has worn them on Instagram. She is an inspiration to me as an older woman, and looks amazing in all sorts of things we might hesitate to wear.

dudsville · 14/03/2022 13:53

I love them so much. I relent the 70s and 80s and am a big fan. Sadly I haven't yet found one I can wear without feeling too dressy. My life is very casual!

dudsville · 14/03/2022 13:54

Not "relent", "remember"!

ArabeI · 14/03/2022 13:56

I like them, though would wear a subtle version, rather than some of the very large frilly-collared blouses I've seen.

I tried to get teen child to try one of the frilly large collar blouses in pale blue, just last year. Sadly she wasn't interested. I don't know where that was from, probably urban outfitters.

midsomermurderess · 14/03/2022 18:44

I've seen Sara Pascoe wear them. They can look good.
