Anyone know how I can achieve a look similar to the pics below, by myself, complete bore with my blonde poker straightened hair, without breaking the bank, and not great with clips / rollers, don't possess any of that stuff, is there an easy machine/ heating curling iron or something I can use or is the dyson air wrap the holy grail..thanks

Straightener waves/ curls

Flyinggeese1234 · 13/03/2022 17:05

Hi OP I can achieve similar using my curling wand. I hold it downwards vertically and wrap the hair round manually (rather than rolling the barrel to create curls), leaving out the very ends. I learnt from a Nadine Baggott video. Will try to find it.

Have you tried using your straighteners
Baaaa · 13/03/2022 17:10

To make waves I mean. The top one looks doable with straightners

Nosieparker · 13/03/2022 17:55

I’ve just brought this, still getting the hang of it as I’m rubbish at girly things Grin

The bottom one looks like a wand, top one straightener curls/waves there are loads of tutorials online.

I love my babyliss curl secret for creating curls

Corkina · 13/03/2022 19:09

Thank you all. I'll give a proper read, look at tutorials. Think I thought there would be some gizmo out there where you chick some hair in and it makes it wavy.

This is so helpful @Flyinggeese1234! I'm going to try it tomorrow, but do you, or does anyone, happen to know why using the tong part isn't advised???

Corkina · 13/03/2022 20:52

Brilliant video! Explained perfectly! Any cheaper alternative to ghd?

Use a diffuser.

Notwithittoday · 13/03/2022 21:15

One of the automatic curlers on a lowish heat setting

Peachy7 · 13/03/2022 21:17

Google dressing gown cord or sock curls. Won't get any cheaper than that!

Flyinggeese1234 · 14/03/2022 08:41

@Corkina the one I use is Babylis, v. similar to this www.lookfantastic.com/babyliss-volume-waves-tong/11553421.html?affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&thg_ppc_campaign=71700000088329921&adtype=&product_id=11553421&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkaqwvJnF9gIVUOrtCh2SEABHEAQYBCABEgJwaPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

With each hair section I first use it as a straightener, with the ‘lever’ part trapping the hair against the barrel, then to make the wave I keep the lever open and just wrap hair around the barrel manually. Using the lever to trap the hair gives a harsh kink, and not the right effect, for me.

Give it a go.

Imabouttoexplode · 14/03/2022 08:44

Do not bother with Dyson airwrap. curls don't hold for most people. Straighteners or curling want are much cheaper and much more effective.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 14/03/2022 08:47

I think they’re both done with straighteners, just held differently.

MorrisZapp · 14/03/2022 08:51

Fashion is an absolute bitch! I have naturally wavy/curly hair but not the right kind.

To achieve the current wave trend, I'd have to straighten my hair then put the waves in half way down, leaving the requisite straight ends too.

My hairdresser can do it with a brush and a hairdryer but I've admitted defeat on ever getting anything like this look on my own.

Gonnagetgoing · 14/03/2022 17:25

Straighteners.

Having said that a couple of weeks ago I put my hair in a French pleat all day and put Amani setting lotion in it. It went nicely wavy which surprised me - normally very curly but I let it “drop” when it came out of the pleat.
