Got a wedding in May so planning on going bare legged. I usually use the garnier gradual tan, when i shave my legs and then apply tan I end up getting orange dots in the hair follicles .
If i tan then shave, I end up shaving the colour off.
So what is your technique for perfecting a leg tan ?
Im pretty fair haired so i could get away with about 2/3 days after shaving so I thought shave on the Tues night, tan one layer wed night and a second layer Thursday night? Wedding is the Friday

Any further tips please share

Leave at least 24 hours after shaving before applying tan. Exfoliate a couple of times before shaving, shave, moisturise with a non oil based moisturiser. Tan the next day.

Do a good old scrub in the shower beforehand with one of those Korean italy towels. Don’t shave before applying, shave after the tan has developed.

You’re better off practising with a deeper tanning product rather than those gradual tans, in my opinion. The gradual ones always go a bit streaky in the end as the skin cells on your leg slough off at different rates. Go for one application instead.

Put moisturiser all over your feet, ankles and knees first. The skin there is drier and the tan takes more strongly there.

Apply the tanning product with a mitt, using gloves underneath.

Rub it in in circles, not lines.

Afterwards, wipe over feet and knees lightly with a damp (not wet) flannel.

Allow to develop overnight, shave next morning, done.

I use a one hour type- so I shave the night before and exfoliate. Next morning I apply tan, wait an hour, wash it off. That last for 4-5 days.

I am very fair, and use bondi sands one hour express tan, and leave it on slightly longer on legs than arms for example so my skin tone is even all over. I think it looks best on day 2-3.

Exfoliate then shave. Moisturise.
Do fake tan next morning / 12 hours later.

I'll try these techniques out, I've plenty time to perfect this
Any tan recommendations? Not too pricey

I swear by St Moriz tan. It’s so cheap but has a really good, natural colour. I’m super pale but use the dark (NOT ultra dark) as I find the dark has a more natural colour than medium.

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 13/03/2022 14:19

Another St Moriz fan here. I use the pump action foam one - builds up nicely and non-patchy

I just use a shower puff to exfoliate, moisturise well and then use it

I'm using Dove Derma care in medium/dark. I wanted a bit of colour for an upcoming holiday and just slapped some on, I was really impressed, no streaking. I find if I shower and leave it a good few hours it seems to achieve a good result. Best not to put on straight after a shower. It also faded evenly!

ScootScot · 13/03/2022 21:39

I get regrowth after shaving in less than a day! The only thing that now works is lasering my legs. Got a cheap second hand one from a colleague.

Now my routine is: shave followed by laser once a week. Usually on a Friday night with my bath! Then put on my St Moritz on Sunday morning so it’s had time to develop by work on Monday.

During the week I top up with Aldi’s Lacura ‘glow’ body lotion once or twice.

Isababybel · 13/03/2022 21:39

Another vote for the darkest shade of dove derma spa, never had any streaking issues /clinging to shaved hair follicles. Have used it for years and love it honestly.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 13/03/2022 21:40

You'd be better off using a wash off tan. Then you can get the precise colour you're after.

inevitablytired · 13/03/2022 21:42

I get this no matter how much exfoliating I do or time I leave! The only thing that I've found works is using a tan with no guide colour like the Isle of paradise brand. It takes a bit of practice to tan with no guide but has saved me from spotted legs!

Dreambigger · 13/03/2022 21:45

Use this bondi sands one day matt tan...with a mitt. Its fab and does last well for a few days...easy to top up. Seems to sit less in pores..I swear by it and am very fair skinned. You can't go wrong.

Shave, exfoliating, St Moritz 1hr tan either night before event or in the morning for 1.5 hrs if I have time!

Use a velvet mitt and wash off gently, then generous slather of bio oil

St moritz 100%
pinkprettyroses · 13/03/2022 22:04

You need to wait a few hours after showering / shaving so your skin is completely cool. Your pores are still open hence the marks.

I'd do the tan in the morning and shave the night before.

I also recommend making sure you're fully exfoliated, then directly before tanning, lather yourself in moisturiser. I've tried every tan going and normally resort back to Bondi SandsSmile

Go to a salon for a spray tan
