I have always used Clinique redness solutions as it used to suit my skin. But not anymore. It seems to highlight my open pores and dry out on my skin then it goes orangey despite being a light shade.

I'm 35 and in the past year my skin has gotten really, really, awful. It's went quite dry no matter how much I practice good skincare. It's often stinging and feels leathery on my cheeks. Redness across my cheeks and chin.

Tbh it's just a mess. Coming into summer and I'm going to try something else.

Any recommendations. Need good coverage but not drying.

No rosacea but I've had awful patchy flaky dry and bleeding eczema skin at times in my life. Currently got v good facial skin from using Moo Goo moisturisers and then for foundation (which I've only been able to wear since fixing my skin) I use The Ordinary Serum/Coverage foundations mixed with a bit of MooGoo for moisture.

I like a dewy look though as Matt does not work on eczema really

I second Soolantra. Available on prescription from your gp or Superdrug. It transformed my rosacea dry red skin in weeks. Gone are the days of spending £££ on trying various expensive face creams etc. 2 weeks of Soolantra changed everything, the redness disappeared, my dry flaky skin disappeared and months later even now I've stopped using it my skin still looks good.

@Brunonononooo

Also came in to say IT cosmetics cc cream, I think it was specifically developed for rosacea. I find it has excellent coverage.
I use this. I cleanse with a hot cloth cleanser, moisturise with Aveeno sensitive baby moisturiser and apply the Cc cream with a beauty blender

This one, there is a green one that’s more matte but I find this one more moisturizing. They have lighter shades than light so have a look and see if you can find a good match.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 12/03/2022 20:12

Have you tried cicoplast to soothe your skin? Ours really good.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/03/2022 23:46
@MadamBuxton Thanks I had a look, will give that a go when my current moisturiser is finished, or is it like an under-foundation thing?

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor Thanks. With the double wear, do you find that the counter assistant would be able to get a good colour match?

@Ohsugarhoneyicetea Thank you, I will try those suggestions. Can only try one skincare product at a time cause don't have much money.
Is the bare minerals a liquid one? I cannot get along with powder foundations but then maybe I should give it another go.
Yes, got matched in Debenhams. I find Estee lauder assistants really good about giving out generous samples so you can try it at home for a decent amount of time before commiting to a full size bottle.

WalrusSubmarine · 13/03/2022 03:02

I’d try to sort the skin barrier out. Eucerin 5% day cream was recommended on here and has been fantastic. Moo goo and some LRP toleraine moisturisers have worked well when I can’t find it. Aqueous cream used to be cheap as chips and that’s pretty harmless.

The only foundations I can use have been benefit or bare minerals.

MerryMarigold · 13/03/2022 03:18

My skin got really bad at one point and I read up on here about healing my skin barrier. It totally worked, although it took about 6 months. Using mineral sunscreen for sensitive skin and a sensitive moisturiser. Not sure if threads are still here, you could try searching. Now I'm ok I'm using cheaper products again, although I still use the mineral sunscreens, but I think my skin just needed to heal first.

Here is thread. You just need the first post with lots of links and at the bottom it says 'where to start'. I think you need to help your skin in the long term but just cover it up.

MerryMarigold · 13/03/2022 03:29

not just cover it up

checkedcloth · 13/03/2022 06:37

You need to see your GP. You may need a 6 month course of antibiotics along with something like soolantra or azealic acid.

I have been where you describe you are with your skin and you can make it better. But you probably need a medical prescription initially.

Also strip your routine right back. Gentle cleansing such as Avene / La Roche Posay, followed by moisturer (again similar brands) or cereve. All available at Boots or Amazon.

The most important thing is daily spf. You need to also be preventing your rosacea from getting worse and UV light is the main culprit. So daily spf, winter and summer.

This is where you may have to spend a little more. Ideally you need a physical SPF, non mineral. Helliocare, neostarta etc. again on Amazon

Re foundation - you need something that will not block pores. Nars are very good.

Good luck - you can make this better!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/03/2022 07:02

Not to be used as a moisturiser though,it needs to be rinsed off.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 13/03/2022 07:06

Do not use Nars! Made my rosacea so bad I had to get a perception to calm it . Hourglass has been really good, the skin illusion.

silentpool · 13/03/2022 07:16

Save up for IPL facial rejuvenation - it takes down the redness and pigmentation - you will need less makeup afterwards. I just did it today for redness on my decolletage - highly recommend.

ParadiseLaundry · 13/03/2022 07:23

I agree with pp about healing skin barrier.

I always recommend this on here, but here goes www.lookfantastic.com/dr.jart-cicapair-tiger-grass-color-correcting-treatment-15ml/12099668.html you can put it on top of bb cream/ sunscreen and it creates a barrier to keep the moisture in as well as helping the appearance of the redness. It used to have factor 30 in it but they removed it, I was gutted, it's still a really good product though.

Flipflopssndsocks · 13/03/2022 07:26

Solan made a huge difference to me. See a dermatologist - there will be something to help.

Rinatinabina · 13/03/2022 07:30

Niacinamide and urea creams help me with moisture barrier and redness. Bepanthen (the baby butt one not the antiseptic really sticky though so be warned) and cicaplast b5 when skin gets really dry and flakey. I’m using neutrogena hydro boost face wash and thats pretty gentle but cleansing.

But yeah I would try to see a dermatologist

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 13/03/2022 07:32

I use San Bunting tinted SPF, plus dermatica to tackle the underlying issue

LBF2020 · 13/03/2022 16:21

@moimichme

OP I'm also prone to redness and have very sensitive skin. I'd second the suggestion that you try the GP, or Superdrug (they have a private derm service where you can upload photos showing the issue, cost around £35 as I recall) to get some professional advice. Soolantra prescription did wonders for me, but I mostly had redness with some pustules (yuk) and I'm not sure if your rosacea would react the same way. I've had good results from vitamin C, now that my skin is in such better shape, but wouldn't have tried it when my skin was so painful, hot and red previously.

Rosacea is no fun, but it is (to some degree, in most cases) treatable. Good luck.

I just want to say thank you. After seeing this comment I went on to Superdrug and have been diagnosed with perioral dermatitis and rosacea. I have been meaning to go to the docs for months for some cream. Now the cream is coming in the post. Result!
Baaaa · 13/03/2022 17:47

Try cetaphil face wash and moisturiser, just really gentle cleaning. And yeah I had to just give up alcohol for mine to improve :(

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 13/03/2022 17:55

Bare minerals complexion rescue is like a tinted moisturiser, not as heavy as foundation but liquid. I don't react to it at all which is unusual. Soolantra is prescription only but you can get it easily online just upload a picture to one of the online pharmacies. I bought a tube 2 years ago and still use it occasionally, just one application and I saw a massive difference.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 13/03/2022 17:57

This is a bit gross, but soolantra is ivermectin, an antiparasitic. Basically it kills the demodex mite which live on all our skin but can get prolific on certain skin types and cause a lot of damage, especially when breeding! Sorry I did say it was gross.

DoWhatYouLike · 13/03/2022 17:57

I've got damaged skin and Rosacea, I'm in my 60s. Rosalique was the biggest waste of money! It's the worst skincare stuff I've ever bought. It's thick, doesn't go on easily, is cakey, and a terrible fake tan colour.

I noticed this. We use ivermectin on our chickens 😱 gross!!!

I found bare minerals slid off my face when the roasacea was bad on my nose :( shame as its really nice
