I have always used Clinique redness solutions as it used to suit my skin. But not anymore. It seems to highlight my open pores and dry out on my skin then it goes orangey despite being a light shade.

I'm 35 and in the past year my skin has gotten really, really, awful. It's went quite dry no matter how much I practice good skincare. It's often stinging and feels leathery on my cheeks. Redness across my cheeks and chin.

Tbh it's just a mess. Coming into summer and I'm going to try something else.

Any recommendations. Need good coverage but not drying.

Following. I have similar skin.

I’ve given up with fancy skincare, acids, retinol etc after 3 years as they have made my skin worse.

I need a good coverage concealer/foundation that evens me out, hides my redness and doesn’t look cakey. Holy grail!

grey12 · 12/03/2022 17:08

Sorry I don't wear makeup but just wanted to leave a little thing I learned.

I wash my face, dry it well and smear honey on my face and leave it for a bit (doesn't matter how long, done it for 5 min all the way to 30 or more!). Honey totally helps with redness, irritation and dry skin. Worth a try 🤷🏻‍♀️ dissolves super well with water so you're skin needs to be well dried, and keep your hair away 😆

treesandsnow · 12/03/2022 17:17

Thanks @Chainey and @grey12.

I will try the honey thing.

I cannot not wear make up, I wish I could. I need all the coverage I can get. I hope this doesn't offend anyone, I don't mean it this way at all, but my skin seems to have gotten so bad in the past year or so that it looks a bit like a drug addicts. It's all uneven, red, sore patches, and leathery bits. It's honestly not just my opinion, my sister and my daughter both have commented on it Sad Sad.

Hope I can find something with coverage, but moisturising and calming.

I’ve just started using this rosalique.co.uk/ and found it great so far for removing redness. Lots of positive reviews on line.

That made me yellow like a Simpson!Yes, it covered redness but left me yellow ShockGrin

I've tried everything on the market and only repeat but Double Wear which I apply sparingly with a buffer brush. It's absolutely fantastic and worth every penny. The secret is to get properly colour matched or it looks all kinds of wrong.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 12/03/2022 18:27

Soolantra fixed my rosacea it was incredible, one application and my skin was transformed. I have very sensitive skin and I use Bioderma Sensibio Miceller water on cotton wool for cleaning (you can get it on amazon). And honest beauty company deep hydration moisturiser from boots. I can wear bare minerals complexion rescue, but almost all other foundations Im allergic to. And if you have the money, I found iS Clinical Pro Heal Serum Advance Plus was amazing for fixing my skin tone after the rosacea cleared.

treesandsnow · 12/03/2022 18:48

@MadamBuxton Thanks I had a look, will give that a go when my current moisturiser is finished, or is it like an under-foundation thing?

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor Thanks. With the double wear, do you find that the counter assistant would be able to get a good colour match?

@Ohsugarhoneyicetea Thank you, I will try those suggestions. Can only try one skincare product at a time cause don't have much money.
Is the bare minerals a liquid one? I cannot get along with powder foundations but then maybe I should give it another go.

I think if your skin is that bad maybe see a dermatologist or your GP? I know they can prescribe creams to treat rosacea. In the past I had some medication from the GP for my rosacea too which helped.

Rina66 · 12/03/2022 18:57

Another Double Wear fan here, totally agree about getting properly colour matched too. I mix mine with the Advanced Night repair serum to make it more sheer.

MadamBuxton · 12/03/2022 18:58

I use it after moisturiser on my red areas around my nose. The first day I then put foundation on but since then I’ve used it instead of foundation. I haven’t had issues with turning yellow like a couple of posters have mentioned but I’ve only used a tiny amount. I think less is definitely more with it.

ChocolateChocolateEverywhere · 12/03/2022 19:01

I was advised to use a product high in rosehip to help with rosacea when i had a facial recently. Tbf she was hoping to sell me their serum at £35 a pop but I had rosehip oil at home so I'm using that instead... no noticeable change yet but it's not been long.

PheonixGlitterRepublic · 12/03/2022 19:04

I found double wear a nightmare for very dry skin, IT cosmetics cc foundation is an equally decent coverage but moisturizing. It’s supposed to be good for rosacea but can’t testify to that aspect personally, it does cover my general redness though.

Brunonononooo · 12/03/2022 19:07

Also came in to say IT cosmetics cc cream, I think it was specifically developed for rosacea. I find it has excellent coverage.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 12/03/2022 19:09

I have rosacea and use Trinny London. So far I'm a big fan and I've tried a lot!

CandleWick4 · 12/03/2022 19:13

Ilimasqua skin base foundation. It’s a really good coverage, covers my red patches and doesn’t go orange/yellow on me.

treesandsnow · 12/03/2022 19:22

@PheonixGlitterRepublic and @Brunonononooo Could you link to me which one please?? My sister gave me some of her IT one in shade 'light' , but it is so dark I use it for fake tan on my legs!! It does seem moisturising and good coverage though.

OP I'm also prone to redness and have very sensitive skin. I'd second the suggestion that you try the GP, or Superdrug (they have a private derm service where you can upload photos showing the issue, cost around £35 as I recall) to get some professional advice. Soolantra prescription did wonders for me, but I mostly had redness with some pustules (yuk) and I'm not sure if your rosacea would react the same way. I've had good results from vitamin C, now that my skin is in such better shape, but wouldn't have tried it when my skin was so painful, hot and red previously.

Rosacea is no fun, but it is (to some degree, in most cases) treatable. Good luck.

treesandsnow · 12/03/2022 19:35

@moimichme Thanks, yes my skin is usually painful, hot and red ): ): I asked the GP and they said what do you think triggers it and for me it is definitely alcohol, although it's only been this year. I should give it up altogether, but find that really difficult. I don't even drink a lot , only about a bottle over two nights on weekend, but it sets my skin off for days. Know I need to just not drink at all.

Dermacol gives good coverage, either as a concealer or foundation. You can buy it on Amazon.

NinjaQueen · 12/03/2022 19:43

My OH has rosacea and uses double wear for full coverage. I think they do a light version which is less Matte for drier skin.

TeaMeBasil · 12/03/2022 19:46

I've just started using IT cosmetics too - they are fab! The coverage is excellent and light.

Have also started using their bye bye redness moisturiser, it's expensive but feels great and I think it's effective.

Corcra · 12/03/2022 19:47

I found this so calming for my skin
www.kinvaraskincare.com/products/24hr-rosehip-face-serum

I also like the IT cc cream with Mac Pro longwear concealer for areas that need more coverage.

Timeandtune · 12/03/2022 19:53

I second the suggestion of asking your GP for a referral to dermatology.
I think you need to treat the underlying causes of your skin issues rather than just looking to camouflage.
