Hush - what happened!!

highfashion · 12/03/2022 16:48

It used to be that I wanted everything and anything I ordered I loved and kept but now it's all awful...what happened! I can't put my finger on what's changed.

OP posts:
LarryUnderwood · 12/03/2022 16:49

I was thinking this the other day. It's all the fussy tiny floral prints for me, and all the necklines are too high if you have boobs.

VerityPJohnson · 12/03/2022 17:54

I think there's been a change if ownership, something like that

NandorTheRelentlessCleaner · 12/03/2022 17:57

The quality has gone down

It’s more garish

Yes I no longer love their stuff

SellFridges · 12/03/2022 18:00

The necklines are awful if you have boobs - very little variation. Same for Oliver Bonas which was another go to.

Whitney168 · 12/03/2022 18:03

I stopped buying from them when even the faithful harem trousers nose-dived in quality. Such a shame.

ufucoffee · 12/03/2022 18:03

I was horrified at the frills

Stroppypants · 12/03/2022 18:05

It’s all bloody awful and so is baukjen too which is a big disappointment (not that I could really afford it anyway).

100problems · 12/03/2022 18:06

It’s always been hit and miss quality wise, even though the designs are attractive. That said I’m wearing a pair of their joggers and a biker sweatshirt right now. I’ll place an order if they promise to bin off the current ditsy print, high neck shite.

Whitney168 · 12/03/2022 18:08

Interesting - I’ve just bought my first Baukjen item and was so impressed with the quality I’ve bought more. Really nice quality heavy cottons, and the sweatshirt I bought first is just the warmest cosiest one I’ve bought (and seems to was beautifully).
Stroppypants · 12/03/2022 18:21

@Whitney168 to be fair the quality is fantastic as are their fabrics and basics. I have stuff that looks new from 10+ yrs ago. It’s the dresses I’m most disappointed with and I’d usually want all of it when the catalogue arrives. Now I feel like I’ve wounded a good friend 😬 Sorry baukjen I do still love you but only about 20% of the collection at the mo.

Anyway back to Hush…!

lesgalettes · 12/03/2022 18:25

I agree. I have an old branwen maxi skirt which I love, so wanted to order a new one, but I don't like the colours and patterns at all. I do like pattern but prefer something a bit more subtle.

😆

I will stick to basics …

I feel like Hush wounded me with their bloody harems. I could live with the jumpers being crap, but not the harems.

Vohgue · 13/03/2022 04:47

The cuts used to be so flattering, not sure what is going on now. I agree about the necklines, Hush used to have really well cut graceful wide scoop necklines on many of their tops. Now they are all high and often have an odd dated looking peplum added to the hem. The sizing has also shrunk. No issue with this in itself, I just want it to be consistent!

ToManderleyAgain · 13/03/2022 06:05

The Hush objective seems to be to produce a large volume of designs (and thus sales) these days, rather than focusing on perfecting each design, as was the case in ~10 years ago when they had very limited number of pieces in their collections.

NRBY nrbyclothing.com/ probably comes closest for me to what Hush used to do well, i.e. very wearable pieces such as harems that become your ‘go to’ for easy days. They have a relatively small collection and whilst it’s not all to my taste, I’ve bought a few pieces that have had a lot of repeat wear.

Libertybear80 · 13/03/2022 06:27

I stopped buying from them a while ago. The quality is poor. T shirts that the flock falls off the lettering after 2 washes and develop holes!

Does anyone recall when the quality declined in the harems? I bought a ‘spare’ pair a couple of years ago (maybe 2019?) that I haven’t actually worn yet as my originals are still going strong. I’d like to know whether they will last or not!
EllaPaella · 13/03/2022 07:36

I used to buy loads from Hush, most of my wardrobe was from there but for the last couple of years I've barely bought anything other than a coat. No idea if quality has changed but for me it's more that the clothes they sell are just the same stuff year on year with little variation and I just got a bit bored of it.
The T-shirts and sweaters have always been poor quality and knitwear was very hit and miss.
I did love Hush for jeans and dresses though. I have a pair of harems that I got in 2017 which are amazing and still going strong, sad to hear they have changed for the worst.

LoveLabradors · 13/03/2022 07:58

Ten years ago I loved Hush, it was the mainstay of my wardrobe. It wasn’t all perfect, knitwear quality was often poor. However I would always look forward to the new collections and find plenty I loved. I have basics from then which are still going strong. For the past three years or so I’ve hardly bought anything from there, it’s all too samey, there is far, far too much on the site, it’s shot up in price and too expensive for the quality. They used to do a 10% off your next order code with every order. They never do decent discounts now. It started to really irritate me how much they chucked at bloggers and influencers all gushing over it because they had huge amounts for free along with nights away, whilst taking paying customer discounts away. I have no interest in the new season stuff, there is an overwhelming amount of the same old same old. Yes, Hush what happened to you?!

OneOfTheGrundys · 13/03/2022 08:02

They’re offering too much. It’s crap quality for the prices and materials.

VerityPJohnson · 13/03/2022 08:34

This is it, they have sold 50% to a private equity firm.

Oh no I just ordered some long black ones. I have grey ones that are about 5 years old and still lovely. Will have to compare.

I buy bits and bobs, recently got a dusty pink v neck t shirt that seems nice. Haven't worn yet.

HelloChompy · 13/03/2022 09:04

@tomanderleyAgain I bought a pair of black and grey hareems in the summer of 2019 and they still look good now. I have worn them both a lot but they are the cropped versions so don't get year round wear. From Spring to Autumn they do get a fair bit though so hopefully yours will be ok.

I still buy bits and pieces from Hush but I am not a fan of the high, frilly necklines or cutesy designs!

Thanks @HelloChompy I shall hang onto them then!

Whitney168 · 13/03/2022 13:09

@ToManderleyAgain, the fabric weight had dropped off a bit before, but main quality drop can be seen in change from S, M, L to numbered sizes in my view - fabric much thinner, leg cuffs much shorter, cut different.

Not sure on date, but if you’re not on size numbers, you’re probably OK.

CocteauTwin · 13/03/2022 14:02

I also have been disappointed with Hush lately, and especially the changes made to the harems. I noted the change in cut, cuff length and quality in a review and got a snotty reply to say changes were made following customer feedback. I now buy harems from Boden. They're not as nice as the original Hush ones, but are much better quality and fit than the last pair I ordered from Hush and promptly returned.
